Brooks seems to have the view that both orthodox and unorthodox Mormons can co-exist together. She seems to have bracketed issues of historicity of Mormon scriptures. Dehlin mentions a period in the 20s and 30s where Apostles openly disagreed with each other. The most notable was B H Roberts who has been discussed recently by Chris Smith and Jo Geisner.
It seems one can be an ex-Mormon, a unorthodox Mormon and an Orthodox Mormon. The heartburn seems to be experienced by those Orthodox Mormons brought up on the thinking of Joseph Fielding Smith and Bruce R McConkie.
Brooks will appear on the Jon Stewart this Thursday.
