Unfortunately Bernie knew how to fly underneath the radar. Had Bernie also been soliciting his client's wives and young daughters for sex, he might have created distrust much sooner.

I am completely convinced that had Joseph Smith kept his lust in check, he would have not met any early demise. It was the straw that broke the camel's back imho.
