Just putting this in a thread of its own to make sure it gets the widest exposure possible.

Darron is an active believing member, well placed as an African American to initiate such a petition.
For me I signed because I do not believe that the church has yet gone far enough in distancing itself from its racist past.
For me, this is not about complaining for the sake of complaining but about trying to make the church a better place from the outside. Somewhere I would be comfortable returning to perhaps one day.
This is not about trying to make the church look bad.
It already looks bad.
This is about trying to make the church look better.

Didn't you also have another signature campaign about this or some other aspect of it? If I remember correctly you posted it on this board. Maybe it is time to let sleeping dogs sleep. What do you think?
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.

Hello Why Me...
Yes, the other petition started by Chris Ralph is here: http://www.petitionbuzz.com/petitions/apology
Now at 190 signatures. Chris is aiming for 200. If you feel you could sign either petition, I'm sure it would be appreciated. Nothing wrong with apologies. As a missionary I was taught this was part of the repentance process. Unless that is, you are claiming that the Church can do nothing wrong?
This, again, for me at least, isn't about making the church look bad. It already looks bad. The publicity this year (with Randy Bott's opinions spread across the world wide web and National Newspapers) has shown that this issue is not dead. There is still confusion amongst the membership on what the churches position regarding 'blacks' and as the other thread indicated 'Native Americans and Polynesians' actually is.
That, notwithstanding the Newsroom article that suggests that people of all colours and race have always been welcomed in the church, something that you and I know is actually not true.
If these petitions get people talking and discussing the issues then that is not a bad thing in my opinion. As Max Mueller said words to the effect of... 'if you sweep all your issues under the carpet, you just end up with a bumpy carpet'
