I hear a lot of Mormons insisting that those of us who leave do so because we "want to sin." I think for a lot of us that is an attempt to devalue what we've been through and give people permission to ignore us.
But what if someone did leave because they wanted to "sin"? Would that make the decision to leave any less difficult and painful? Would it make it less legitimate? I don't think so.
If I were gay and left the church because I knew that I could not have a fulfilling and happy life as a Mormon, to me that is an excellent reason to leave Mormonism behind. If I left because going to church every Sunday was sucking the life out of me, that's a legitimate reason to leave. If I left because I didn't want to pay tithing because I disagreed with how it was spent, that's another decent reason.
I left because the church is a load of crap, but that's no better or worse a reason for leaving than any other.
So what if I want to sin?

I dunno, it seems like the best possible reason to me.
People leave for many reasons. I guess that same sex orientation would be a good one. The best one, I think, is the realization that the founding tenets of the Church are just a huge pile of horse biscuits.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

All reasons for disaffection are equally dubious to those Mormons who truly believe. I am convinced there are more that secretly admire us than publicly scorn us.

Since when do people who "want to sin" bother leaving the church?
Surprise, surprise, there is no divine mandate for the Church to discuss and portray its history accurately.

What worked for Joseph... but then, he probably wouldn't fit in very well in Salt Lake Central right now.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

There's no guilty pleasure in doing something that is no longer a 'sin'.

Oh, I don't scorn you. I think there's a middle ground between scorn and admiration. You're people just like everybody else, doing the best you can.
