An update has been posted on reddit:

Hey everyone! I know there was a post about this last week somewhere and I just wanted to confirm some of the details: My religion professor (Thom Wayment) announced that the Book of Abraham papryi will be viewable in conjunction with the BYU Church History Symposium held this Thursday and Friday. Friday, the symposium will take place in Salt Lake City from 9 am to 5 pm. During any of those hours, the Book of Abraham papyri will be available to the public to see in the Church History Museum (45 North West Temple SLC). This event is open and free to the public. You do not have to be affiliated with the church or symposium in any way. It will only be available from 9 am to 5 pm on Friday. I only know what my professor has told me, so I'm not sure where exactly in the Church History Museum you can find it or what the process will actually be like. I emailed my professor to confirm all of these details today and it looks pretty solid.

You can take a look at the symposium schedule at via the symposium website. It looks predictably terrible.

Because the Book of Abraham stuff is such a polarizing topic within the church, its display is not allowed to be advertised anywhere, on the online schedule or otherwise. My religion professor was allowed to announce it in class.

Sort of ironic how in the 1830s displaying the papyrus was faith promoting, but now decades later best to keep it out of view so it won't dampen the faith of those except those most steeped in the faith. Times have changed. JSJr's methods wouldn't work on today's people, but Bernie Madoff's do.

Well it's a step in the right direction. There must be nothing on the documents they're displaying that's not common knowledge already, so displaying it will at least silence critics a bit accusing the church of buying problematic documents for the purpose of hiding it like with the Hoffman letters.

It does seem to be inviting discussion too.

Now if they allowed carbon-dating...
