Well, you have overt racist Mormons posting here so... I guess the Church hasn't been forceful enough on its disavowals of past racist priesthood holders and policies.

What were they doing the day before, besides supporting the status quo? Vranes wonders. They "never learned to stand up against wrong."
Exactly this.
There were some racists too. I was young when the ban was erased but I first heard about the news from a guy that used a racial slur to tell us that blacks got the priesthood.

I had been thinking for a long time that LDS in general were overcoming racism admirably, and I know of some individual instances of that, but this past election has made me rethink. People who are certainly not overt racists seem to have no trouble with Trump's appeal to the most egregious racists. Trump supporters within the church are a sign that these people do not know how to stand up against wrong, or even recognize wrong.

Re: Latent racism in LDS Church
The church wants us and outsiders to believe it is diverse and all are equal-checkout how they portray those attending GC-although 95% white is the crowd they will choose a black or latino family or singles to put on the video as they do on the Mormon videos between sessions or on the front page of the Ensign-all to make you think the races are equal and diverse in the church. in my son's ward in AZ there are zero blacks and one black in the stake and he said the closing prayer at SC to make it seem like there are tons of blacks in the Mormon commuity-ditto in my son's ward in sandy ut, my daughter;s ward in colorado-not a black in sight. in VA guess what ,no blacks in my wife's ward.

One wonders how we should define racism. Racism is like feminism -- an often used word but without a clearly agreed-upon meaning.

There is a poster on here (moinmoin), a perfectly reasonable and pleasant chap, either a current Bishop or has been, parents serving a senior mission etc. Who believes that Race And The Priesthood is simply PR spin designed to deflect from what the Church actually believes, and that black skin is specifically the result of the Curse Of Cain.
I kid you not.
Racism is alive and well in the Church today.

We simply invent new reasons, new justifications, new explanations. Sometimes we ignore the evidence altogether.” (Mathew Syed 'Black Box Thinking')

Because she gives them quotes like this:
"I am beyond disappointed at Obama's behavior these last couple of weeks," she wrote Dec. 28. "Blaming, everyone including Trump for his failures. His childish rants and self-proclamations of grandeur included that he could have won if he ran again (which is ridiculous on so many levels). President Obama gave us 8 of the worst led years in American history highlighted by an array of restrictive and repressive policies, that have hurt hard working Americans the most."
Electing a Conservative Black Woman who says stuff like that alleviates a lot of cultural racism for them.
