Gee's Review of Tamas Mekis' book on Hypocephalus

Gee concludes:

Mekis deserves gratitude for an outstanding achievement in gathering and organizing a wealth of material that will make studying hypocephali much easier in the future. He has also put forth a coherent interpretation. Though other interpretations are possible and will doubtlessly be forthcoming, he has at least provided a target for others to tilt at. This work should be the new starting point for future study”

What gets me this Egyptologist has not mentioned who Smith falsely restored the missing parts. Note figure 3. Smith copied it from another piece of papyri. In most examples of the hypocephalus in Mekis book I could not find one that displayed in the upper right hand corner a figure like Smith’s restoration but all with a standing figure in a boat with a scarab (insect):
