Mormon or Latter Day Saint
God bless my new friends and I thank you so much. Sunday I learned Mormons isn't a word I am to be saying anymore. The missionaries introduced them as Mormons and my sweet mother always called Mormon for the two elders when nocking at the door. My sunday teacher said to me I should use the name of the Church as I speak to love ones. Why is this to be? God bless

Welcome to the board Mistico. I should give you a heads up, most of us here are former members of the church. But there are several still believing members here as well who may have good perspectives on this change.
From what I have gathered, the current leader of the church wanted LDS to replace Mormon. But the previous leaders disagreed, even going as far as to spend millions on an international “I’m a Mormon” advertising campaign in the early 2010s.
However once the current leader took over, he finally had the ability to do things his way. And so here we are, with his request that everyone not say Mormon.

It's now politically incorrect to use the term Mormon as some "members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" and their god apparently take offense at the use of the term Mormon, which had in some quarters as early as the 1830s became a 'hiss and a by-word."
