How Mormons view Catholic Church miracle claims

It’s interesting how they’re handling it. Unlike dowsing Dan, they seem to be genuinely curious to investigate. They claim that the communion wafers multiplied on their own inside the holy communion vessels.

How do Mormons like Dan reconcile belief in miracles with Catholic claims? Do Mormons reject them outright, like atheists do, simply because they’re not from their particular religion?

Or do Mormons embrace them as real? In that case, what in the heck is Mormon God doing confusing us by giving Catholics legitimate miracles while only finding lost car keys and changing tires on the side of the road for Mormons?

I love Catholic miracle claims. They make me misty for Three Nephite testimonies about fixing flat tires and disappearing and whatnot.

I looked at the first link and found the presentation an embarrassment. Puzzled I later checked out who the person is and found it is about a person long dead who is held as an inspiration and example for things done in his life. Making someone a saint is part of Catholic community holding on to people they think are valuable inspiration. I can see sense to that. Officially a couple of miracles have to be associated , this one presented by association. I found a second link that explained that the multiplication of host happened during the process of distribution when it appeared there was not enough. That makes it a nicer story. I do not think there is any way in the world investigation is going to be able be sure whether this was a miracle. The idea of trying to determine it is a nice gesture I suppose.

If a miracle could be determined, would it then become simply part of the natural world? If a piece of Eucharist suddenly grew veins and started beating with a pulse and blood, would we be satisfied to stare in awe or would we try to poke it with a stick and put it in a mass spectrometer?

It makes me sad that Daniel Peterson was satisfied with just staring in awe at his dowsing abilities and wasn’t at all curious to put them to the test. Humanity wouldn’t have gotten where we are today with that kind of apathy.

We would be stuck worshiping the static electricity sparks from rubbing glass and cat hair together, satisfied to label it a miracle and never push forward to discover what was behind it.

drumdude, I think at least usually people investigate to try to figure out how things work because people are curious and have found that useful learning is possible. Accepting something as miracle usually is because it is part of a story people value. In the case for this thread an indication of sainthood. I am unsure about Peterson and dousing. He might just be overly fond of the idea.

I am quite glad that the host remains grain based.
