Post by Rivendale »

I can't remember ever seeing a negative growth rate in the US. http://ldschurchgrowth.blogspot.com/ ... 2.html?m=1.

United States -62 (0.42% decrease)
Russia -21 (23.3% decrease)
Japan -20 (7.97% decrease)
Canada -6 (1.20% decrease)

Just a side note, at your link there's a comment showing a link to a Mormon-faithful sub on reddit, one that doesn't tolerate any negative comments about the lds church. Due to the way breaks are shown, the title reads something like this:

"how many have you not iced, more or fewer pple? "

 I've been working in NYC for long enough, I think.

Will need a few more years to establish a trend, fingers crossed that the church is finally on the decline in the US.

I recently re-connected with the Mormon family I knew in high school. The ones who took me along with them on my first trip to Utah in 1999, who tried so ardently to convert me. The father was a direct descendent of a well-known early Mormon apostle (same last name) and had been the Stake Missionary, back when that was a thing.

The parents are divorced, the mother is remarried, and the former Stake Missionary has not been to church in over a decade. My friend from high school has not attended church in years and posts ex-Mormon / liberal Mormon stuff criticizing the church all the time. They have not officially removed their names.

Almost everyone who tried so ardently to convert me back when I first discovered Mormonism has been out of the church for years.

My ex-in-laws had five children. Three (including my XH) are now non-believing or non-attending.

It's only anecdotal, but I imagine if you factored in inactivity, the numbers would be much worse.

IMHO, at some point, the 'church' is going to be forced to convert to a charity or to a full-fledge real estate corporation as the truth about who the real Joseph Smith was and the fraudulent foundations upon which he founded the religion becomes more evident and mainstream. I think it's obvious which one they'll opt for.

Yeah. I dated a woman who had been married to a guy involved in Amway, as well as the LDS church. She said the Amway conventions evoked more of "the spirit" per the LDS descriptions than any LDS meeting she'd ever attended. So there is the third option: the church could become a MLM. Oh, wait, it sort of already is.
Apologists try to shill an explanation to questioning members as though science and reason really explain and buttress their professed faith. It [sic] does not. By definition, faith is the antithesis of science and reason. Apologetics is a further deception by faith peddlers to keep power and influence.

Is this perhaps a reference to the practices of the Mormon mafia?

For kicks and giggles, will you please contact them individually, then tell them that you're now open to joining the LDS church and ask them to tell you how to go about it?
