On a scale of 1 to 10 Peterson's, I give them 8 Peterson's.

Can they script Mormons drinking alcohol and swearing. I grew up being taught to avoid temptation and that if we were told to do something that was considered unrighteous that we should avoid it. And fair enough because who you want to be. I'm just surprised that they pray and talk about going to church and then they are doing things that most people I know would be excommunicated for or at the very least disfellowshipped. I don't think any Mormon who wants to represent the church would be doing all of that on TV for the world to see even if scripted.Fence Sitter wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 9:41 pmAre there really people who think reality TV resembles reality?![]()

I think these women understand that the popularity of a reality TV show is based on how many viewers watch and that no one is going to watch a normal Mormon's life. These women are not there to represent the church, they are there to promote themselves. The title of the show alone should be a big warning that it really does not represent everyday Mormon lives, otherwise it would not be "Secret". Maybe these women are really like they are portrayed and maybe they are just acting. My money is on 'acting'. Reality TV is just soap opera stuff where the 'actors' understand that drama sells.IWMP wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 8:10 amCan they script Mormons drinking alcohol and swearing. Wouldn't it cause people to think that that is the norm for Mormons?Fence Sitter wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 2:42 pmI think these women understand that the popularity of a reality TV show is based on how many viewers watch and that no one is going to watch a normal Mormon's life. Re: The Mormon wife TV series.
I think that it would cause a very small set of people to believe that it is normal behavior for Mormon wives, like people who are not otherwise familiar with Mormons or Mormonism and who think reality TV actually is real. It is sort of like watching COPS and thinking that it shows what a normal day is like for all police when in reality police work is 99% boredom and 1% actually chasing criminals.
Recently there was a mini-series called "Under the Banner of Heaven" on FX. The portrayal of Mormons who were not part of the Lafferty family, was horrendous. I lived in that area at the time and the series did a horrible job of showing how regular Mormons acted. Now that show could have convinced a lot of people that Mormons are/were weird.
The entertainment and news industries like to focus on the fringe parts of society.

My daughter had me watch every episode of Total Drama Island on the Cartoon Network with her. It would have been fun to have an episode with all Mormons. Especially if Elder Packer was there taking notes. Can't remember if that was before the Interpreter or not, but Dr. Peterson would have assigned Professor Midgley to interview the characters to dig up information for a hit piece.
This show had all the elements of reality TV.
