We've had folks, especially the two that I've called out, participating in what I would call a misdirect. Something like what a magician does.
And all the time THEY have been the trolls. No one noticed. I guess they are either masters at what they do...or...their sleight of hand is simply recognized and ignored.
Once a magician's methods are exposed, the magic is no longer magic.
In fact, the magician...the troll...can look rather silly.

MG
Let's just have a troll party lol have a thread where everyone deliberately trolls and roasts each other. Might be therapeutic. Lol. I am joking.
My son told me a roast the other day. He said this isn't directed at you it's a roast and I can't remember what he said but it wasn't a roast it was just an insult. I said that you can't walk up to someone and say that and say it's a roast, I said people have to want to be roasted and ask to be roasted he said you can. I ended up saying please don't do that to anyone at school. I think it was like, "this is a roast, you're ugly" it was that blunt.

Some folks around here think they're a bit more sophisticated in their techniques at trolling. But not really. I am surprised that others have been misdirected for so long though. Hmm...
Sounds like your son might be a teenager? Fun times.

He is 10. Though I think he might be getting there. He's started back chatting and refusing to go to bed. He stood covering the plug on the wall to stop me turning the TV off tonight. I already let them stay up and hour late to watch a movie lol. It's funny because once I manage to get him through the whole bedtime routine and into bed, he's asleep really quickly. He's kind of starting to push boundaries now but honestly, I think that's healthy. It's good that he is comfortable enough to disagree. I just need to work out how to navigate it in a healthy way without leading him into full blown rebellion lol. Not sure how right now. My daughter has always been rebellious. She'll either be a total nightmare teenager or she will have got all the rebellion out of her system and be an awesome teenager lol. (Not being serious, who knows how things go).
TWO wonderful lies published by the prophet Joseph Smith to all the world:
1) King Pharaoh, whose name is given in the characters above his head.
2) Olimlah, a slave belonging to the prince.
It isn't so much that MG is not interested or knows much about the above lies, rather, it's just a matter that he doesn't know how to defend them in any kind of credible or reasonable way.
You're right on that point. I have not studied this particular issue in any real depth.

MG
MG, you are lying to me and to the board and to all lurkers that read this thread. You are a liar! Of course you have studied it in depth. And you also know that I've provided material on this board to assist readers in understanding how the Mormons are lying about the Book of Abraham. We have discussed Explanations of the Facsimiles before and you've studied these things in great detail:
What about the sacrilegious mutilations towards the god Anubis of the Egyptian religion and the disrespectful statement made towards him as being a slave in your so-called precious Book of Abraham Explanations for Abraham in Egypt?
Cutting off the snout of an Egyptian God seems as heinous as those LDS missionaries smashing headstones in that Catholic cemetery in Colorado. The LDS missionaries were reprimanded for that act of religious desecration. Justice for Anubis is important, especially due to effacing a funerary script and publishing it in a well-known book.
Anubis, in all his glory, facing off against the Kirton McConkie attorney dog, seems fitting, as well as an apology from the Interpreter Journal of Parallel Gardening, fanciful timelines, and Origami.

That Mormon apology was mere lip service for the desecration to the Catholic shrine which is on par to what Smith did for hacking off the snout and headcloth of the mighty god Anubis of the Egyptian religion. And MG partakes in that awful act by accepting the Book of Abraham as sacred scripture when it is nothing more than garbage with some thoughtful and inciteful ideas of preexistence and matters involving universal intelligence. But that knowledge has always been around and was not new to the world. Seekers and inspired minds have contemplated those things for thousands of years.
Foul play
Lies
Coverup
Fake revelation
So, take that, MG. You Mormons dish it out but can't take it. Too damn bad! Mormon deception regarding the Book of Abraham is over the top and deserves to be uncovered and exposed to the entire world. You know this to be so!
If Mormons can desecrate Anubis then we can desecrate the Christ! All is fair in love and war.
Remember a few comments ago that MG said he learned as much from what people didn't say as from what they said? viewtopic.php?p=2888269#p2888269
Lots of board members (including me) didn't say anything in this thread, but we also apparently contributed to the thread.
Never let it be said that MG lacks a sense of humour. Or of the ridiculous. Or of the idea of playing with language to see where it takes us. Or of reductio ad absurdum. Or ...
As you say, Malkie, never let it be said that MG lacks a sense of humor. Or of the ridiculous. Or of the idea of playing with language to see where it takes us.
I went with monotheist because I visualise Islamic god to be the same god and the Christian god. I think if we discuss no god being the same god, it kind of becomes more philosophical and you'd have to look at the definitions of what god means. You can't say the atheist god is the same as the Christian god because atheists don't visualise a god of any sort, (according to my understanding).
I don't know enough about polytheism to put that question out there.
I was half joking. But that's a good reply to the other half of me that was being serious.
My point in my initial post is to simply say what I've said before. There is nothing new under the sun in regards to the the motivations and contributions of the critics anymore. The bases have been covered. Thus my interest in why folks continue to come here as a community to bash the LDS Church and its members. I would think that would get old.
Hmmm, is this a trick or a treat? When you say, "the bases have been covered;" who covered the bases, the critics or the apologists or both?
MG neglected to answer my question or clarify, so I'll answer it for him based (pun intended) on the conversation we had seven years ago regarding this very topic:
But I do want to read the paper Fence Sitter linked to and I want to spend some more time with Kerry Muhlestein's paper I linked to above and gain some further light and knowledge on this topic. Others that haven't covered all the bases...I'd suggest the same thing. Those that have covered ALL the bases...awesome.
Regards,
MG
To my knowledge the Church and its scholars have said nothing publicly about Anubis being mutilated and why the so-called king's name has no royal Cartouche. Thus, the only bases covered in this regard are from me. The Church and its scholars have not stepped up to the plate. They are AWOL!
This thread has been hijacked. Par for the course. The thread linked to by Shulem does speak for itself. I'm happy to have others refer to it.
I will point out that in that thread Shulem continuously falls into the 'misdirect' I've been referring to in this thread and misapplies the application of the word troll.
I've made it rather clear in regards to the ongoing 'misdirect scheme' in which the 'troll narrative' has been misdirected in its application...Marcus, are you listening?... in order to cover for the actual trolling behavior by some posters (Marcus being the primary instigator)) so as to blow up productive discussions.
I've asked for this to stop but to no avail. Other posters turn their heads and ignore what is going on.
Another thing. When a poster makes accusations towards me that have no basis in truth...here's looking at you IHAQ...and drops off the radar when called on it, I see that as a problem.
Then when Shulem and others fall for or go along with the misdirect we end up with a rather transparently skewed discussion on which certain voices...mine for one...are cancelled/squelched (in effect).
This thread is a perfect example of the status quo around here.
And you wonder why more faithful members of the church don't participate here. Or then, maybe not. That's the way it's designed (by a few influencers).
Shame on the board for accepting this behavior by a few numbskulls.
When I called out the two folks I've referred to here they went running for the hills. But they will be back with their same shenanigans along with their supporters.
