Similar to showing pregnant women the ultrasound before an abortion, I think investigators of color should be shown a video clearly laying out the history of racism in the LDS church.
The good thing is that the Church is rooting out more racism all the time. If potential members of African descent are frightened away before they join, that will slow and perhaps reverse any progress that has been made.

Currently they are being tugged at by Dez Nat (Deseret Nazis), Christian Nationalism, and MAGA, while Trump is doing his best to undermine American democracy and the Constitution. Let's hope the Church keeps its good values.

It may have to do with gaining a testimony of Jesus Christ and the restoration of keys and authority to save.

When converts, including those of African descent, are taught the saving principles of the gospel and the efficacy of ordinances of salvation/exaltation I think they are able to work through some of the messiness of humanity mixed in with scripture and individual leaders.

Some are not able to do so. It can be a stumbling block and a hard thing.

Opposition in all things. There is a way through the trials and messiness but it requires truly seeking and understanding with hopes of finding faith in God.

I wouldn’t buy a used car from a racist, much less pay him 10 percent of my income and trust that he has authority from God to offer exclusive salvation rituals.

I wouldn’t buy one from a former racist either, especially if he hasn’t taken full responsibility for his past.
I think the church has moved on. Critics haven't.

Taking responsibility is something the church teaches and doesn’t practice.

Although I’d love to see more Mormons follow the church and tell their bishop they’ve “moved on” from whatever sins they’ve done, and to tell their bishop they should move on too.

Don't lose your testimony over that.

If it helps at all there were quite a few, if I remember correctly, that were Hispanic/Latino.

And an Asian or two.

Maybe next time?

Moved on? What did it do to repent? To make it up to those blacks that the LDS Church sinned against?

Moved on. Poppycock.

I think you've been around long enough to see the sea change in black membership. There have been hurdles to overcome.
During the 20th century, many LDS leaders opposed the civil rights movement. In recent decades, the church has condemned racism and increased its outreach efforts in Black communities. It is still accused of perpetuating implicit racism by not apologizing for, acknowledging, or adequately counteracting the effects of its past beliefs and discriminatory practices like segregation.[4]: 7  Church leaders have worked with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (the NAACP) since the 2010s, and have donated millions of dollars to Black organizations.[5]

There are an estimated 400,000 to one million Black LDS Church members worldwide, and at least five LDS Church temples in Africa. Fourteen more temples are at some stage of development or construction on the continent, in addition to several temples among communities of the African diaspora such as the Dominican Republic and Haiti. The Community of Christ has congregations in twelve African nations, with membership increasing.[6]
What I'm saying is that we have seen a long sought for change that some thought wouldn't happen in their lifetimes. I remember the time and the place where I found out about the revelation to give the priesthood to all worthy men.

It's interesting that the critics will always find something to bitch about even when there have been changes that they themselves probably jumped for joy when they occurred.

If you're outside of the chapel you're going to play defensive position. You really have no other option.

For a number of years now the actions have spoken louder than words, this is true.

The church teaches that the seven parts are recognizing sin, feeling sorrow for sin, forsaking sin, confessing sin, making restitution, forgiving others, and keeping the commandments.

The apologetic argument that “Church leaders were a product of their time” is not taking full responsibility, in my opinion.

A bishop would not accept that rationalization as a sign of complete repentance.

That's from Wikipedia. I added the source since the previous quoter did not include a reference.

An additional problem with blind and sourceless cut and paste (beyond the plagiarism issue) is that you risk putting your name behind something that is not true. For example the last sentence from the above quote is lumped in with the Mormon count, implying it refers to the LDS church, but it doesn't.

Here's the context:
The Community of Christ (CoC) also has a presence in Africa with membership steadily increasing, despite the Western decline in its membership.[5] Currently, the CoC has congregations in twelve of the African nations with a collective membership of around 35,000. Unlike the LDS church, the CoC has ordained an indigenous African man, Bunda C. Chibwe, and an indigenous African woman, Catherine Mambwe, to the highest ecclesiastical body, the Quorum of the Twelve.[6] The CoC missionary model is slightly different than that of the LDS model in that they set up nonprofit foundations and work through partnership and service within specific countries in order to build their membership.[7]

Sounds like a less racist and sexist approach than the one the Mormons use.
