Another Failed Prophecy: Who The Hell Is Oliver Granger?

Post by Everybody Wang Chung »

In D&C 117:12 we have yet another failed prophecy by Joseph Smith about some guy named Oliver Granger.
12 And again, I say unto you, I remember my servant Oliver Granger; behold, verily I say unto him that his name shall be had in sacred remembrance from generation to generation, forever and ever, saith the Lord.
I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure Oliver Granger's name isn't held in sacred remembrance from generation to generation, forever and ever.

How many failed prophecies is someone allowed to make before they are no longer considered a Prophet? Why do Mormons give Joseph Smith, Brigham Young and every other single Prophet a free pass? And, how many prophecies does a Prophet have to make before they are actually considered a Prophet? Because I can't think of a single accurate prophecy any Prophet has made.

Maybe I'm asking or expecting too much from someone who believes he is God's mouthpiece on earth and the only living Prophet, Seer and Revelator. Maybe the Prophets all deserve a break.

Oops, my friend, you've screwed up and I'm afraid that I must step in and set the record right. I'm afraid MG is going to love it.

Ugh. I'm afraid, brother Wang, you've made a dodo out of yourself with this one!

First of all, Smith's prophecy has been literally fulfilled and Oliver Granger's name has been held in sacred remembrance from generation to generation beginning with his well attended funeral held in Kirtland in 1841 and the addition of Section 117 in the 1876 edition of the Doctrine and Covenants. Due to Oliver Granger's name being published in the D&C and read by every member of the church ever since, his name has been held in sacred remembrance. The prophecy has up to this point been fulfilled.

A Failed Prophecy

Post by Shulem »

Dear Readers,

Here is a thread up in the Celestial forum that gets into failed prophecies of Joseph Smith. My work therein is rock solid and nothing or nobody can overturn it -- I so testify in the name of Joseph Smith.

MG involved himself in the thread beginning on page 6. Go and see:
