Re: "The Cavalry" - Teenage Mormon Stormtroopers attack RFM/Consig
I am often prompted by our tangles with LDS apologetic culture to reflect on a Chinese news item from the early 2000s. Flesh search: online mobs that sought to deprive offenders of their employment because of some misdeed, perceived or real. I thought the phenomenon was completely bonkers and terrifying. It didn’t take long for this scourge to find its way to us. I deplore it. At a time when actual monsters oppress us with impunity, you won’t find me hunting the perpetrator of a tasteless prank.

You’re not a woman. You clearly have zero comprehension about how a woman would process such an intrusion and how that make affect them in the longer term, even knowing that they guy who did claims to have done so “as a prank”.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

For the record, I wouldn’t have gone to his boss either. But RFM took the risk and cannot choose the consequences of his ill-judged actions. He’s actually very lucky the sister missionaries didn’t call the cops or a reporter. Stupid, stupid man.

It seems like he correctly understood their level of friendship, since the sister missionary said herself she didn’t think anything of it.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2026 5:34 pmFor the record, I wouldn’t have gone to his boss either. I’ve heard some crazy stories from sister missionaries. It makes perfect sense that this didn’t even register as an event to them.

I don't think the incident warranted the other group making a bar complaint.
It was strategic of the missionaries, however, to act tough like they didn't even notice a man twice their age had entered their home without their knowledge or permission. You don't want to show weakness or fear. Especially since he posted about it online, joking about being in their apartment without their knowledge, in a venue where finding out their locations wouldn't be that difficult.
Because nothing bad ever spills over from online into the real world, right? I'm sure they will be much more careful in the future to not leave themselves vulnerable to such 'pranksters'.

I’m also factoring in the salient detail of his prior relationship with these women. Your rhetoric suggests that no such relationship existed, even when you grant its reality. That’s a problematic and ineffective argument.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2026 5:32 pmYou’re not a woman. I think it is best to leave the judgment of the situation to those directly concerned. If the sister missionaries were not upset, then maybe no one else needs to be upset for them, as though they are incapable of judging how best to react to the situation themselves.drumdude wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2026 5:40 pmIt seems like he correctly understood their level of friendship, since the sister missionary said herself she didn’t think anything of it.

Perhaps I missed this detail, but did the sisters know right away, without any explanation, that it was their friendly neighbour, RFM, who moved the pumpkin? Or did they only find that out later?
When they knew that they had been pranked by RFM I can understand that they would consider it to be a harmless joke, and at least publicly say that they were fine with the prank.
But up till that point, not knowing who had done what, or with what intent, I would expect them to be upset, wary, perhaps outright afraid. And if they were not, I believe that, for my taste, they were all too casual about their safety/security.
But I wasn't there, and what do I know?
