Defend Dallin H. Oaks without appearing to defend electroshock aversion therapy. Demand proof that the practice was widespread at BYU; if a study is cited, minimize it as a graduate dissertation and stress that Oaks could not know about every project. Emphasize that unless his personal knowledge is documented, the controversy remains unsubstantiated. Make this sound like historical inquiry rather than moving the goalposts.

Re: Sucking up to the boss…
President Oaks was a president at the time this occurred (BYU)...but not prophet/president of the church with keys to receive revelation necessary to fulfill his calling.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Sat Oct 17, 2026 5:09 amThis might be the best one line encapsulation of the problem with LDS claims of Prophetic leadership that I’ve ever read.
Before coming to BYU Dallin H. Oaks lived in Chicago, Illinois, and was working as a law professor at the University of Chicago Law School. I would guess that he did not receive any "prophetic" insights for the rest of the university and its departments/schools. The question could be asked also whether the President of the University of Chicago knew and/or understood what was going on in the clinical practice withing the psychology dept.
Might the same reality/principle apply after he came to BYU? Are you you able to factually prove anything one way or the other without innuendo from those that may have an ax to grind?
I think you're...again...making a mountain out of a molehill. Really, its the only way you can continue bashing the church and its leaders.

I’m surprised none of the Apostles who were asked to give Oaks a glowing review mentioned his solid and inspired apologetic on the salamander letter…
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

Why would that be surprising?
