It seems to me that on average, it's the Mormons that are more bitter, not the post Mormons (certainly, there are several examples of angry post Mormons, but they're in recovery... what's a Mormon's excuse?) My own personal experience is that I was absolutely miserable as a Mormon, and my life completely turned around when I left the cult.
Mormons are like mushrooms that thrive and grow only in the damp wet darkness. Who knows what they could grow into if only they were exposed to the light? A mighty oak tree, perhaps? I guess they're content to just be a little fungus.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

I think it's the Mormons who are constantly trying to prove something who are bitter. I think you can be an active Mormon on your own terms and not be bitter.
That's been my personal experience, at any rate. I use my brain and my conscience, and live the values and principles of the Church which work best for me in my life. Now, I've been called hypocritical for doing that, and that's fine. (PP has labeled me a "Jack Mormon". LOL)To each his/her own. Frankly, I just call it applying common sense.

If you're going to be a Mormon (for whatever reason), this is the only way to do it. At least, I sure like you, liz.

There was no attempt at following the "house rules" which were clearly posted in several locations. You were warned in excess of a dozen times before the staff had an online meeting and decided that your attitude and posting style didn't fit the paradigm that they were trying to portray and made the decision to ban you. Now, given that the staff over there is rather protective of their participants. . . I think a dozen plus warnings was way more than you should have deserved for some of the s*** you tried pulling over there.
Talk about bitter, huh?
And, before anyone buys into Why Me's bitching session. . . There have only been 6 people banned in 4 years. And they all receive a plethora of warnings. I have yet to see anyone (in the three years I've been on that board) get banned just for confronting someone's ideas/posts. It's usually, as was the case with Why Me, because they were being complete raging dick-holes about it.
Brian, Why me was Be Kind / Invisible Man over on PostMormon? Well. No wonder he was extolling Wade's virtues! I'm sorry I brought Wade up on that board - I hope by mentioning him I didn't summon him over there!

KA
No, KA, Why Me is not BK/IM.
Why Me was banned froom PostMo nearly two years ago. I know it was a big issue for several of the mods and Jeff to do so, but they had repeated warned and requested change from Why Me before pushing the "Banned" button. As I recall the situation, he crossed the line when he started becoming antagonistic and demanding. The forum's primary rule is "Don't be pushy. It's just your opinion and you need to keep it that way". Why Me, apparently, was unable to do so for the seven months or so that our memberships overlapped.
Completely different poster, I'm almost certain of it.

I think messageboards tend to draw out the angry and bitter on both sides. The LDS and ex-LDS you meet on the street are probably more likely to be stable, well-adjusted individuals then those who choose to spend their time violently disagreeing with another and slamming each other; you're likely to have selection bias when you use them as a base to investigate the effects of the LDS Church.
