He made it up. Kirby is a humor columnist, and his target is his fellow Mormons.
I think he's spot-on with his analysis. Thing is, he's analysing something different than Shades is, with his Chapel/Internet thing.

I used to work with his sister at the COB, and she was often mortified by some of his humor that poked fun at Mormonism. She would say, "He's my brother, so I can't kill him."
That piece is a classic precisely because it's pretty much spot on.
