Scottie wrote:2. I honestly don't think girls have the same problems with masturbating that boys do. From what I've been able to gather, girls may try it and have fun with it, but there is no need to release like a boy has. I know PLENTY of women that claim to have never tried it at all. I don't know one single man that claims to never have done it. Women of the board, feel free to correct me as needed here...

You can start off by not calling it a 'problem'.

Will Schryver: "No, he didn’t." 3/19/08

According to my Sex-o-pedia (yes, I have one), 97% of men, and 84% of women masturbate. Masturbation has been linked to reduced levels of prostate cancer in men. Regular masturbation can help prevent depression (as long as it's part of a balanced breakfast!).

I didn't get the masturbation talk from my dad. The entire sexuality talk he gave me was "For heaven's sake, use a rubber!" Then my mother made me talk to the bishop when she found my porn stash. I got the "For young men only" pamphlet about little factories and all that.

The fact that masturbation was "wrong" definitely led to a huge portion of my depression and suicidal tendencies.

My bishop was a huge gossiper, too. One day, as I was walking to my therapist, I got "Hey! How's the masturbation going?" from one of my neighbors.

:/

I would probably tell my sons to lock the door, wash their hands, and don't tell their mother. I'll also tell them to try and have as much (safe) sex during high school as they can.

EDIT:

I would also teach them the wonders of lubrication. I was a full year into my masturbatory career before I figured that part out. I could have saved myself from a lot of chaffing.

There's a trainwreck going on here in slow-motion. I want to look away, but I just can't. ;-)

I know exactly what Scottie felt like when he was a teenager, because I felt somewhat the same way. SWK's "Miracle of Forgiveness" was still new enough, and the whole concept of "sexual sin being second only to murder", and for some reason they never really explained whether any given sexual sin was worse than any other, so they were all lumped in together in this one category. So yeah, thinking dirty thoughts was as bad as fornication according to Jesus in the Bible, and masturbation was "sexual sin", which we were assured was second only to murder. We were told that it would be better to get your son or daughter back home in a wood box than get them back home defiled through sexual sin. What a mind game!

And now, Scottie, you're getting more and more involved with a woman who is still deeply entrenched in that whole mindset. And she believes it, you know she does. That's reality to her, and she judges things by these values and how they stack up with her LDS notion of reality. Unless you can convince her that the church isn't really true, and that there's a different reality out there than the one she grew up with, this is the kind of crap you're setting yourself up for.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

I know I am stealing this from someone I can't remember from this board, but I can sum up what and how I was taught about sex as a young boy in one sentence.

"Sex is dirty and filthy, save it for your wife."

I know it's none of my business, but this trainwreck is even starting to scare me. I mean, isn't the religion difference the reason Scottie is single again in the first place? Mayday, mayday.

Masturbation and thoughts of sex are yet another attempt by MormonCorp to usurp another piece of real estate in its adherents minds. An action that has no real consequence is vilified and becomes a sin.

Almost Every missionary I served with spent a little more time in the shower than necessary, especially me. We all were made to feel guilty about it. Not just guilty but soul-crushingly ashamed of our "heinous act". It sickens me to the core realizing just how much I was convinced that beating off made me a despicable person.

In thinking about this further (possibly over thinking), what of the cycle of abstinence followed by the inevitable jerk shower session? If enough brainwashing occurs the subject will constantly have a stream of reasons to come begging to their authority for deliverance from this "horrible habit". Its a vehicle for false authority's sustaining of power.

I told my sons and daughter the same thing - it's normal, for all intents and purposes universal, and nobody else's business.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.
