This sure isn't a rich Mormon related condition. As a sister to an ex-junkie, I saw what led to my brother's path down that road. It was about expectations and personality. He was expected to be something and someone he wasn't and didn't have the type of personality that could just shrug those expectations off. Parental pressure, whether it be religious or otherwise is the root cause of many of these problems. The kids can't be the perfect little Jonny that Mum and Dad want them to be, so they rebel and find solace for their self esteem issues in drugs. I feel sorry for the poor bugger. Having said that, I also feel sorry for the parents. They do the best they can with the knowledge they have (mostly) and often still get it wrong. Playing the blame game doesn't help.

Really? Explain to me the dynamics of a Mormon family, make that rich Mormon family, that would render a child in need of government aid.
