Again, I'd hate to point out the obvious to you.
There are many here who might not currently pay tithing, but their spouses and/or children do. There might be many here who contributed voluntarily for years in tithes and offerings to the LDS Church, whether or not they do currently.
And again, it seems like you're showing hypocrisy if you're commenting on what other religions do, and thinking that it's acceptable to do that, even if you're not of their faith, but telling non-LDS or non-active LDS that they have no right to comment on things LDS.
The road is beautiful, treacherous, and full of twists and turns.
Thanks for posting this, Scottie. Clearly, modern-day temples have become symbols of the contemporary LDS Church's hubris and vanity. Those who have condemned this kind of wasteful spending are 100% correct.

I always find people living in the affluence of America complaining that the Church isn't doing more for the poor peole of the world to be pretty pathetic. That's right. Let somebody else take care of the poor. And then gripe they don't do it better than they do.
I pay tithing which supports the building of temples. I think that is a great way to spend the Lord's money. You who don't pay tithing have absolutely NO standing in the matter.
I pay tithing and think overly expensive wood from Africa is silly. I do not think the God of this Universe really expects that if he visits this structure.

Nobody rakes in billions of dollars revenues in name of God and returns literally less than 400Million$ in ten years when the revenues are over 50Billion. You do the math, what is the percentage of income of LDS Church distributed to poor? 5%? I highly doubt it.
The LDS church takes in well over 14 million dollars PER DAY in tithing, which amounts to OVER 5 BILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR (these were estimates from nearly ten years ago, so they are likely higher now).
The Church spends about 1%of its annual income, or, to look at it another way, LESS THAN $5 PER MEMBER PER YEAR, on charity.
Bill Gates, by contrast (and whose net worth is probably in the same neighborhood as the church's), has a charitable foundation that gives away over ONE BILLION DOLLARS each year to charity, or ABOUT TWENTY TIMES AS MUCH AS THE LDS CHURCH, even taking a conservative estimate for tithing intake and a liberal estimate for the church's charitable givings. Bill And Melinda Gates Foundatation TBMs, your tithing money would do more good for the world if you were to instead give it to BILL GATES. Alarm bells should be going off in any reasonable person's head right about now.
God has left the building and is staying at Motel 8

I am truly sorry charity,
You, DCP,Juliann types of apologetics are a huge embarrassment to your faith.
Seems like more wealthier the Church gets more clueless and giving majority of members become.

Are you saying Jesus is too good for Motel 6? If the Biblical narratives are correct concerning Jesus's general character and tastes, it seems like he'd be right at home at a Motel 6.

Bond, I agree. I have little knowledge of Christianity, or the Bible. Yet, what I do know of Jesus is that he most likely would befriend those that are not found in the shiny temples of the world -- he would be found with those that don't know his name, his blessings, and were the ones truly in need of the love he would offer. They would be in the homeless shelters, the Motel 6's of the world, and on the streets.
I've often thought Jesus would have liked me as a young "lady". :)
