The church doesn't profit from the missionaries, Merc, unless you consider converts to be profit. The missionary program is one of the few I endorse at least somewhat heartily. Young men could get the same character building experience from army boot camp, but the mission isn't a complete washout as far as I'm concerned. The thing is, the kid has to be housed and to eat even if he's in school, so the money isn't exactly an issue with most of us. We'd have to spend it no matter where the kid is.
You seem to be stuck on your mission, and I contend that it's every person's right to be stuck on something, so you won't hear me tell you to move on, but for your own peace, perhaps you should do some introspection and find out why, after all these discussions about your mission, you're still stuck there.

Get a 2005. They removed the driver-side arm-rests and instead put in a consol on the '06. It seems trivial, but the arm-rest surprisingly makes a huge difference. Also, fork out the little extra for the turbo (and stick with an automatic, the clutch on the PT is kind of awkward).

It maintains Mission Office, pays rent and utilities, and gives you money for food. It's designed to average the cost of living across all Missions (so the guy going to South America pays the same amount as the guy in Japan).
Really? Where are the documents displaying that this is the case? There is no documentation so stop assuming you know where the money goes and what the potential surplus is after operating expenses.

Personally, I don't think there is a surplus.
