The Nehor wrote:Some Nephites undoubtedly survived as slaves, conquered people, and most likely defectors when the war started going badly.
Then why doesn't the text mention this? Something like: "And it came to pass that not all the Nephites were killed, yea some of the less righteous among them became slaves unto the Lamanites, and their burdens were great."
Nevermind...it doesn't mention it because there wasn't enough room on the plates.

Ummm.....I just quoted where Moroni implies that some did deny the Christ. Also, Moroni was probably not in a position to get accurate data on the surviving Nephites......what with being in hiding and all.
"Surely he knows that DCP, The Nehor, Lamanite, and other key apologists..." -Scratch clarifying my status in apologetics "I admit it; I'm a petty, petty man." -Some Schmo

It does mention some survivors. Who's to say there weren't any more?

How does your interpretation of the scripture you quoted Trump the other two scriptures quoted in the thread (Mormon 8:2-3)? Those two scriptures seem very clear to me. All the Nephites, excluding Moroni, were wiped out. This is what I was taught in Sunday School, seminary, and BYU Book of Mormon class.

Who's to say there were? Doesn't it seem like it would be an important thing for Moroni to mention...that there were other survivors? Couldn't god have shown them to him in a vision or something?
(also for BCspace:)
Of course civilizations have died or have been destroyed, but my understanding is that they came to be called something else or were integrated into another group.

Sure. There are many ways to define a civilization. Edifices, culture, traditions, literature, ethnicities, tools, etc. When those change or are destroyed, it could mean the end of a civilzation.
I'm pretty confident with the notion that hundreds, if not thousands, of Nephites escaped the final battle and re-settled/re-integrated eleswhere.

The Jaredites seem to be a different story. You have two guys at the end, everyone else having been killed and the countryside littered with rotting corpses. Then Coriantumr kills Shiz, and it's over. The ostensibly later Nephites mention the land of the Jaredites as being strewn with bleached bones, and the only Jaredite anyone ever meets is Coriantumr. I wonder how that squares with remaining Jaredites being assimilated into another group. The text doesn't really give us much hope of that.

I don't see any requirement in the text for such to be mentioned in order for it (survivors/escapees) to have happened.
