Kemosabe Shades, can we "ban"

I don't think mere use of the word "retard" is grounds for "banning." This word has a legitimate and non-offensive application, e.g., "Heavy indoctrination in the LDS Church tends to retard a woman's self-esteem." Thus, I vote that the mods continue to deal with this issue on a case-by-case basis, and that they reserve the movement of threads to those instances where the word is used in an offensive/insensitive manner. Banning individual words certainly isn't the solution.

You know, like talk about it.

The idea of banning based on the use of words is, as a practice, "developmentally impaired to the point of lacking a high enough IQ comparable to the same age group".

I reason that the whole concept is now so firmly rooted into my mind that I will derail any discussion involving the word that shall not be named in an attempt to find amusement and/or provide amusement to others. As this appears to be offensive to some members of this board (unfortunately this offensibility is one source of the humor) I propose that it be removed so that all threads may continue unmolested.
An alternative proposal would be to allow the offensive threads to continue and selective consign Beastie's Temple content to the Telestial.
Alternatively, we can let me run amok until it loses all it's amusement value and all will return to it's beautiful self on this board....well, at least normal self.

Besides, the word would continue to be allowed in the telestial kingdom. No one is being banned from the site, and no one is being banned from using the word, if that is what they really need, for some bizarre reason.
This site already moderates this forum to a certain extent. Temple content is immediately moved to the Telestial Kingdom, as well as certain other language. So why would this be unacceptable?
People really can't moderate themselves on internet boards, in my opinion. Of course, some can, but enough others cannot and will not, and will use the excuse of an unmoderated board to pull it into the toilet, that, for a board to remain sane, SOME moderation has to take place. Shades has already accepted this.

We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

I agree, but I think the point is to ban the use of the word "retard" when used as an insult to others. Your use of the word is not at all offensive as it does not make any reference to those with special needs. I believe it is the use of that word in an insulting manner which relies on the condition of those with special needs which is problematic and I think it should be grounds for an automatic transfer to the telestial.

Personally, I find it offensive when "retard" or "retarded" are used as a pejorative. I don’t know if it’s my mom’s occupation, or the special needs individuals within my family that have made me sensitive to it being used as such, but for whatever reason it rubs me wrong when it is used in a derogatory fashion.
That being said…
Agree.

If someone uses a word that you think is inappropriate, call them out on it like you did in the other thread. Make them look stupid for using the word. But don't "ban" certain words or phrases. Lame.
Agree.
