Also, if you do this and choose to use some of the environmental ideas I offered, just start with one wall at a time as cash flow permits and I'd put in the little nursing area right away so that mom's can see you are thinking about more than just their wallet. SAHM's love to go shopping in places where they can feel comfortable as to their needs and children's needs. For example, if you didn't have the little nursing nook, mothers would likely go to the car to nurse and then go home, or just go home period. You don't want that! You want them to stay...linger....and shop!

You see these in all the nursery shops and they are used by professional caregivers. While I had a big honking saddle seat rocker for my babies, I had a chance to try these out with real live babies and they are like the best thing ever created in the universe for mom's and babies.

You can even get them with an ottoman to put your feet up!

I really like the idea of kids saying "I want to go to kid to kid!!"

Plus, I'm thinking of buying a couple of plasma TV's and I'll have one in a walled in play-place playing Baby Einstein and another playinig the latest Disney cartoon.

I've never seen Baby Einstein but I do like the idea of having some visual stuff. Anything you can do with walls is a good way to go so your square footage is used primarily for merchandize.

You know what's so cool? I don't know exactly how you do it, but it's like a flat screen monitor thing that looks like a fish aquarium. Have you seen those? That'd be SO cool in the little nursing area. Very relaxing...uh huh!

Also, if you can't get the industrial scented air freshners...if you have a high place with an electrical outlet, you can put candle warmers up there to make a nice aromatic effect. I use these in my classroom during winter! Wal Mart has some nice low cost candle fragrances and the vanilla candles there smell like birthday cake...I'm so not kidding!

Ambiance is everything!

Kids like sharp things. I recommend putting box cutters around to let them enjoy themselves.

Funny you should mention that. I'm doing that tomorrow. (Cue scary music)

You can always count on there being a lot of kids in Utah. Are the other stores in that location doing well? It seems that in the Sandy area, everytime something opens up, something else closes.

Well, Kid to Kid is a franchise and there are several Utah locations. The corporate offices say that they all do well, but then again, they are trying to get me to open a store so that they get their $$$. I'm not sure I can trust them 100%.

I think a used kids clothing store is great. The only thing I see that could be a problem for you is that Utah has so many kids. The used stuff may be abundant, but it may be very worn out. In other states where most families with only one or two children (and more money to spend on clothing), you will always have a steady supply of very good condition, name brand, second hand clothing. When I lived in Utah, I found that garage sales sucked. The clothing was thread bare, and they wanted more money than I would pay. Garage sales are so much better outside of Utah.

I guess I'm just saying that you want to make sure there will be enough high quality used items for your store. Mormons use it up and wear it out big time!
