I bet the perpetrators of the MMM felt the same way.

I bet not.

Hmm, that implies that they were even more bloodthirsty savages than already believed.

I think they were frightened, angry, and confused. That could constitute savagery.

The thing you should ask yourself is WHY they were frightened, angry and confused.

Probably the continual threat and existence of war with the United States.

Once again. WHY were they almost at war with the united states?

Having military patrols in the area does not constitute being at war. Brigham Young was getting ready for Armageddon, licking his dictatorial chops over the possibility of a direct threat to his little petty serfdom. If it werent for the Mormons behavior, the US would have likely left them the hell alone.

Having military patrols in the area also isn't a way to decrease tension especially in an age where communication was a little more limited and the people involved have experience with quasi-military units attacking and looting them. WHY were the military patrols out there? Might it have had something to do with fear that the Mormons were a threat to them? Or that they were a boil of evil on the backside of the U.S. that needed to be lanced?

The Mormons were a threat to the individuals passing through the land they were/are squatting on. that's why they were there. Learn some history and objectively look at the situation for once in your life.

Edited to add:

The Mormons were a threat to every group they interacted with.

Mormon groups were dangerous idealists that believed they were living how god wanted them to live. Part of that meant bullying and forcing violence upon those who would not bow to them in land deals, economic conflict and theological ideas.

Mormonism should have been destroyed by the US army after MMM and those who justify its existence now should take pause at just how violent and marginalized the culture in utah was in the late 19th century southwest.

So the patrols that helped incite the MMM were there to prevent things like the MMM....despite things like that not happening before or this board would be trumpeting them endlessly....wow.

What!? You are essentially saying that the Mormons were justified in killing over 150 human beings because of the army patrols, are you not?

And we do trumpet past occurrences. What the hell was the Mormon war? The Danites? the destroyed press? The continual harrassment of those on their way to California propr to the MMM?

The MMM was not an isolated incident. It was the culmination of continual actions by Mormons in order for them to enforce their feelings of superiority and persecution complex. Said persecution complex being instigated, fueled and reinforced by Brigham young and every dumbass Mormon authority figure in Youngs deseret serfdom.

No, I was saying that contributed to the hysteria. I don't think they were justified in killing those people.
