I mean, this has been such an issue for me over the years, that I'm glad the Lord finally got around to inspiring the leadership of the church to do something about it. From here on and henceforth, no more asking the audience to turn with you to a scripture during a sacrament talk. That incessant page turning just drove the spirit away, just the same as if you blasted AC/DC's Thunderstruck in the middle of the meeting. So thank heavens that is taken care of. And we can all be grateful that we will never have to gaze upon another prop or visual aid EVER again during sacrament. The audacity of some to think that might help the learning experience.
So rejoice fellow saints. God lives and is certainly mindful of our needs.
(ps-I'm not joking.)

Short of telling you that his predeccors all screwed up, what else do you expect?
It is a good course....
Are you jaleous, because he's pursuing such a moderate course Than his bonehead predecessors?
Cut him some slack & see how far he goes with it...

It would be very interesting IF ...

I am (was?!) Roman Catholic by birth and have took part in many celebrations in my first 12 years.
All my wives (3, and NOT SIMULTANEOUSLY !) was Reformed ( http://www.answers.com/topic/reformed-churches ) so I have took part many times in services for ~40 years with them and their relatives.

They did never open the Bible, even they did never take along it. It is not necessary. They have used the hymn books only.

Is this something NEW learned from the OLD great and abominable churches ?
- Whenever a poet or preacher, chief or wizard spouts gibberish, the human race spends centuries deciphering the message. - Umberto Eco
- To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin. - Cardinal Bellarmine at the trial of Galilei

A view of sacrament meeting by the end of Monson's presidency of the LDS Church:

Yes, we can all rest easy at night knowing The Lord is also more concerned with molehills than mountains.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

What was funny, was the right after reading the letter, a lady gave a talk, and when she referenced a scripture and went to read it, she said "No one turn to it". I heard few chuckles, but guess what, no pages were turning.

I think the letter was just plain silly. I'm almost embarassed that the FP thinks this is something important, requiring a churchwide mandate, and that they think ward meetings need to be that controlled. So much for the rumor that leadership thinks we are spiritually over-regimented.

We spent less then a minute with that letter on Sunday. The bulk was taken up with mountains, you know the Atonement, Eternal life, the nature of God, etc.

This board is probably making a bigger deal out of this then the FP did.

Sure, all the stuff that is covered over and over and over and over and over and over and over....

there are plenty of current events that God could really help us human beings out on, other than whether or not to turn to scriptures pages in church.

I agree. You'd think God would instruct Church members in California about how he feels about a constitutional amendment regarding gay marriage instead of wasting time with this.....

or how to deal with darfur... or iraq... or terrorism... or climate change...curing cancer... you know, those pesky little things that actually threaten people's lives..

yeah, god cares more about turning pages and whether the gay couple down the street get married. You definitely have god pegged.
