When a missionary in the Central States Mission, Independence, Mo. we would be assigned at least twice during the summer to go and gather rocks and re-build the altar. Seems the rocks kept getting taken by visitors. This was in 1967. It must have been re-built or re-piled a hundred or more times by now. Wonder how many faithful saints have a rock from the real Altar Adam personally built now?
I have been there. It was 1981. But all there was was a field and some trees.

Unless it was a local flood such as the flooding of the Black Sea.
But here we have a problem. Mormons believe the Garden was in Missouri. Adam and Eve were driven out and built the alter in Adam ondi Ahman, still in Missouri. Then it would seem the population grew and most likely it would have been localized to Missouri or even North America. If the flood was at the Black Sea then how did Noah and all the core of the human race get to Asia from North America?

Yes, I believe this to be the case, only "fable" is too kind a word. I think of it as a bald-faced lie. He gave them exactly what they wanted to hear. They got to be excited by learning things that nobody else knew, and he got to pass himself off as someone who knows arcane things given to him from God.
It's the same reason he identified the old Indian bones as the remains of Zelph the great White Lamanite, and it's the same reason he identified some Egyptian religious funeral texts as the writings of Abraham and Joseph, and it's the same reason he said that the Kinderhook plates were the record of a man who received his kingdom from God, etc. Joseph Smith could spin a good yarn, and there were people eager to lap it up and believe it 100%. It's why we're stuck with crap like Kolob, and Enish Go On Dosh, the Egyptian Alphabet and Grammar, etc. It's almost surely the same reason we have the Book of Mormon.
All of this is so obviously hucksterish once the self-imposed assumption of Prophetic gifts and truthfullness of Joseph Smith are set aside.
Again: Adam's Altar? ROFLMAO This is the Mormon equivalent of those relics all these little old churches in the Catholic areas of the world have, ie: a tooth from Saint Schmoe, a splinter of St. Geneveive's thigh bone, a scrap of cloth from a robe once warn by Thomas Aquinas, or whatever.
The probability that a "first man" named Adam really piled up those stones in Missouri is about the same as the probability that Lord Rama's army of faithful monkeys built Adam's Bridge.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Or two skulls from St. Somebody, one of age 12, one of age 40.
Or the splinters from Christ's cross, enough to build Noah's ark out of them.
by the way, I like that relics. The designs, the environments, the presentations are brilliant. They are from the time when the RC church was rich. (NB the CoCoLDS is rich now.)
I'm sorry for the New World as a whole. There are big distances and biggest things of the world.
In Hungary, (10 million people 93 thousand square km the greatest diameter is less than 600 km if You don't know it) I can sit down in a parochial temple of a small village with 40 resident.
And the temple was built in the XIII. century.
