I would like to see Porter respond to this. He mentioned that he had gotten rid of the TV's at his house. (Well, he probably keeps them around for DVDs and whatnot). And he did this with zero faith to back up his decision.

I've been contemplating turning off the cable. I can't even have my kids watching Cartoon Network anymore. The latest show they promote for my kids to watch is "Total Drama Island", which features pixelated penis and a heavy dosage of rude humor. These types of cartoons seem to be the new fare that's being promoted.

And how do the syndication networks get away with showing smut like "2 1/2 men" at 7:00 pm? That show is pure raunch.

Ever heard of the Off button? I've never seen 2 1/2 Men, nor do I tune in the Cartoon Network.

I prefer the CSI's and the Law and Orders. And The Closer. No sex, no rude humor, no reason to come unglued. Oh... and High Stakes Poker.

Harmony,

Ever heard of the Off button?

Yes. And as of late the TV is off alot. Theres very little that we watch together as a family. I like to sit with my boys and watch Dr. Who. that's clean for the most part.

Now that schools starting there will be no TV till all of the homeworks done.

Heres a question: Why is it that so many women are attracted to shows like Cold Case Files and the like? I see this alot. Guys watch it and enjoy it as well, but its usually because their wives got them watching it.

When I moved in to my own apartment (out of the hellish fascism factory that is BYU housing) I was ecstatic at the prospect of not having Broadcast or Cable TV.

Oh sure, I still have a TV. It just that my 36" flatscreen is now my dedicated computer monitor.

It's like getting two wonderful presents at once: A sweet new monitor and no stupefying boob tube drivel.

Win-freaking-win. One of the best decisions I ever made.

All this crap they say about TV is just a cover for their true motivation, which is having a monopoly on the information pumped into their members. God forbid they should ever view anything on TV which would challenge their religious views and make people realize how ludicrous it really is (at least, they'd have you believe there's a god that forbids it).
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

I envy you. Which beach are you on?

As stressed out as I am, I would give anything for another beach vacation right now. I was at Wrightsville Beach last month.

I prefer to not be on the beach. I like to be in a condo at the beach. I like to hear the surf and watch the waves pound the shore, but I don't like to spend a great deal of time on the sand itself. Wading once in a while is the closest I'll get. The best thing about the beach is the sound of the surf hitting. I go to sleep to it every night. Whoever recorded that sound makes a fortune off of me. Without that sound, I can't go to sleep. I find it very soothing.

Yes, I personally am terrified of being educated by the thought-provoking and educational elements of television today. I don't pay for cable or satellite for fear that I will view a news report or a documentary voiced by Leonard Nimoy that will trash the whole house of cards. I also expect that Seinfeld, Jerry Springer, and 24 would lift me mentally out of the stupor of LDS thinking and bring me to a higher plane.

I fear my TV.

I'm a short walk to Zuma beach, liz - whenever you decide to take another beach vacation.
