Personally, I believe the church will never change because the membership will never request a change. They have absolute trust that the men in charge are called of God AND that God will never let the church fall into apostasy again. A recipe for stagnation.

From outside of Mormonism, critics are seen as anti-Mormons. Anyone who dares challenge the church is seen as attacking it. How can change come with this mindset?

I have seen the most simple and obvious problems with the church denied to the nth degree by apologists. Sometimes I think they are in such a defensive frame of mind that they feel it would somehow weaken their testimony if they conceded any weak point of the church.

We see in Harmony an individual who desires change. I want change. I'm not sure if she has identified specific problems and possible solutions but that would be a big start.

It will change. It has changed. Can you image President Joseph Fielding Smith admitting that our public mis- perceptions are of our own making? And that the way to cure some of those ills is just to love your neighbors?

It is changing. It will continue to change. But I'm sure it will all be measured and slow.

Actually, I think you are right. As the younger generation gains power in SLC, I believe we will see more of the old ways of thinking die off. Each generation sheds a little more of the old and brings newness to the religion. Each generation is a little bit more open minded.

The other option is that you are just an asshole in real life and it carries over.

You just called Jesus an a**hole. Perhaps you ought to read the Bible more to find out all the aspects of how Jesus treated people.

I can't see how I called Jesus that so I'm having a hard time following your logic.

But I can see how using the "swears" towards people is contrary to my Christianity. I will repent later Asshole.

Now that was funny!

Follow the advice and you will.

But I can see how using the "swears" towards people is contrary to my Christianity.

You didn't mention "swears" in the OP. Changing the subject won't help you out of this.

I will repent later Asshole.

Just when we were all being nice to each other ...

Exactly how do you think Jesus treated people with contempt and condescension?

I guess this is just a reminder that some people have lost their sense of kindness and social grace in the name of their religious hobbyhorses.

Jesus posts here? Wow! I mean, WOW! And we all know that Jesus treated people a whole lot better than some of our Mormons treat others. A whole lot better.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.
