No, those awful object lessons aren't in the manuals, but they were used frequently in my neck of the woods. No authority, no Bishop or Stake Leader, seemed to find fault with them, as far as I know.

KA

I was waiting for KA to show up! This is definitely YOUR claimed expertise! LOL

I received the licked cupcake lesson when I was in Mutual in the 1979-80 time frame.

Only, it actually failed quite miserably. All of the girls ate the cupcakes, anyway!

It is not a lesson you will find in any official manuals. I actually think that this object lesson is an example of why the Church has grown more careful about teachers using official Church materials. There are a lot of object lessons like this which are vastly inappropriate and cruel.

Come on, Clerk, they're just emulating the Prophet Joe.

I should hope that it can be taken for granted that all male LDS model themselves upon the Prophet Joseph Smith.

I had the Licked Cupcake lesson in the very late 80's.

No, those awful object lessons aren't in the manuals,

I didn't think so.

Can't blame the Church then.

Some active, yet non-believing men say they don't defend sexism in the LDS church. But they don't need to defend it. They support it every week as they walk through the doors of that church bringing their wives and children with them.

By the same logic, anyone who votes Democratic is a murdering abortion supporting socialist and an apostate if LDS.

Your children will no doubt get the same tired cupcake lesson we all got as youth.

I and my wife have never heard it (and we are a little older than you). I just checked with my 4 teenage kids. They've never heard it.

And try as you might to counter the misogyny pounded into their little heads, the fact that you keep taking them back for more teaches them what your words never will.

I think the best thing you can do is show them you care by taking them to Church and far away from this life sucking apostate condition you live in.

So where is the evidence about the Joseph Smith claim?

Jason Bourne While sex sin is still taught and focused on very heavily I think the forgiveness side is more emphasized as well.

Really ? Forgiveness?
So young men who have had sex can still go on a mission?
I thought the higher bar thing ruled them out?
God has the right to create and to destroy, to make like and to kill. He can delegate this authority if he wishes to. I know that can be scary. Deal with it.

Back when I was a teenager, I was also taught the Licked Cupcake Lesson within the LDS Church.

Joseph F. Smith or Joseph Fielding Smith (I can't remember which) told the young men that they should not kiss a lot and then asked rhetorically "How would you like it if your friend licked all the butter off your bread."

I found this in Gospel Link or Infobases, but I don't know the exact source. Just search for butter or bread and you can find it.

Hate to dash your hopes but I don't. He had his flaws and his strengths. The only person I feel I should model myself after is Christ. Avoids the problem of emulating flaws. I admire certain attributes in people and there are some people I know well that I respect but that is as far as it goes.
