It's just good marketing. They want to establish the temple brand with the up and coming generation. Look for X-Temples to open near you with a more extreme and cutting edge ceremony, like a new fist-bump sign of passage through the veil -- to keep it rocking.
Don't worry, the message remains eternal.

So there is actually a calling called "temple patrons" and your job is to attend the temple? Are people set apart for this, with a sustaining vote?

We have one of these where I live. Still the attendance seems for our temple low on the week day sessions for this temple. Fridays and Saturdays are busy. Summer months are better than winter because I think of the horrible weather we have so much of the time.
I can't recall any statements from the presidency which indicated the level of activity that was anticipated at these mini temples. Of course there may very well have been a pronouncement made similar to what you have said.
It seems there is a contrast between attendance in my area, over the past 8 or so years, and the level of attendance that the stake feels we should be having. I would say that stake leaders are far more than just a little underwhelmed.

" call the elderly. They'd love to go. They're bored;"
How will you relieve the boredom by sitting through a boring movie, being elbowed to wake you to bow your head and say Yes, and do this over and over and over and over again?
Bring back the paintings on the walls so visitors will at least have something to look at. Bring back live sessions so visitors will be able to at least grade the acting ability of real people. Bring back Satans Apron that has the actual symbols of his 'priesthoods' on it.
Sitting through the obnoxious movie, getting motion sickness from the panning, not being able to understand the words because of the music and sitting in a place decorated by Motel 6 and Holiday Inn Express designers is a waste of time. And if you forget something and have to rent it they really get pissy about 'moneychangers in the Temple' jokes.

Joe, you sound a bit unchallenged by your temple experience. May I suggest such exercises as counting the number of locks on the lockers in the dressing rooms? Or admiring the scenery in the movie... the guy who plays Satan is hot! Counting the number of times they say "we will go down!"?
Really, Joe. The temple can be a very entertaining experience... as long as you don't have to veil your face.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

In all seriousness. . . have you experienced this?
If so, please give us some details.
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

It’s also a clever way to keep the tithing money flowing from young couples that are experiencing tight resources and might consider actual needs over tithing. If they are called to go to the temple it requires tithing to be paid.
