Wonder what Mr. Scratch would make of these documents. I think he would see the potential of this information.

Why bother to organize to defeat the ERA? This current organization is simply a continuation of the ERA organization. Both were viewed by the Brethren as threats to the family. I suspect the same organization would be used again, if polygamy suddenly became socially acceptable.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

I was playing basketball in a stake center last week and on some chairs I found an eight page "talking points" leaflet from ProtectMarriage.com. The last page was a donation form, it also stressed that donations were not tax-deductible.
Hmmm....
I was going to bring it home and scan it for the board but decided against it.

These documents are astounding. Thank you, Bro. Penguin, for linking them. It really shows the full range and scope of the Church's duplicity. There are letters coming out of the highest echelons, letters which are ordering funds to be disbursed here and there. The letters reveal a lot of very good reasons why the Church is so secretive, and they go a good ways towards explaining why the apologists cling so futilely and pathetically to their "tin foil hat" straw man.
Really, I see no reason why the Church should continue to keep its tax-exempt status in light of this.

Thanks for bringing these documents to my attention, Moksa. They demonstrate very clearly that the paranoid are sometimes correct in their suspicions.

I think the church only cares about SSM in California and Hawaii. Apparently they don't care about SSM in Massachusetts, Vermont or Connecticut . New Hampshire may be ready to approve it as well.
I am proud that I am no longer a member of the LDS church, and I am more proud that I am a New Englander.

That's the funny thing! Had Mr Scratch or similar had accused the church of these sort of conspiracy shenanigans there would be eye-rolling, sighing, and dismissal all round. In light of this, church callings for apologists would be pretty minor.

Don't kid yourself. You're still on a list in Salt Lake Central. It's kinda like the Hotel California.

I suggest you resign from the Church in protest immediately.

Perhaps too we can also get the tax exempt status of the Catholic Church revoked for its unstinting and organized opposition to the death penalty -- even going so far as to excommunicating or threatening to excommunicate Catholic communicants who are legislators who support the death penalty. And, also, the Catholics' repeated interference in Latin America with politics dealing with indigenous peoples.
And then there's the long history of the Baptists organized to pass blue laws and dry county laws; they should be investigated and their tax exempt status revoked.
And then I wonder why the LDS Church's tax exempt status wasn't attacked during the Reagan administration for opposing the MX Missile. What a travesty that was; had it not been for that we could have a huge second-strike missile capability located in Utah with all of its jobs and benefits.
