Two possible metaphors for the LDS church:


The actual metaphor is that the Church is the kid who first notices the fire in the empty classroom, pulls the alarm, and everyone else thinks it's just a drill.

Yep. The church has always been on the correct side of social issues. Civil Rights, Interracial Marriage, Polygamy. The church was out in front leading the charge.

Where are you living?

The chickens have already hatched. And I think we can rely on the old people dying out.

It is a done deal.

The morality of and the right to have access to and use birth control was once one of of the great social issues of the day. It was comparable to abortion today. LDS did not fair well on this social issue. Overtime the culture has increasingly mellowed on it.
