Solid majorities of young people are in favor of full marriage equality. As the older generation dies out, the Church is going to find itself in a similar position to the Bob Jones University freaks.

Yep. The church has always been on the correct side of social issues. Civil Rights, Interracial Marriage, Polygamy. The church was out in front leading the charge.

Yep, I agree. However, I think you are confusing sin with "social issues".
The morality of and the right to have access to and use birth control was once one of of the great social issues of the day. It was comparable to abortion today. LDS did not fair well on this social issue. Overtime the culture has increasingly mellowed on it.
