Jason Bourne wrote:New York may be the next one or two down the line. The Governor of that state has introduced legislation to legalize gay marriage. Also, last year he directed the state agencies to recognize such marriages from other states.

It'll also be interesting to see how California's Supreme Court rules on the validity of Prop. 8 in light of the recent Iowa ruling. There are elements of the Iowa ruling that are not contemplated in the California ruling, and that the latter justices may find persuasive. The California court is supposed to give its decision next month.

Furthermore, the California legislature is apparently willing to vote in favor of gay marriage, and Schwarzenegger has steadily drifted in that direction as well. I think California politicians prefer that the court grants gay marriage -- it takes the heat off of them -- but that they'll pick up the slack if the court doesn't strike down Prop. 8. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw gay marriage in California in a few month's time.

The CA Supreme Court may soon restore marriage equality in this state by striking down prop 8. I didn't used to think so but with all the momentum, it seems more likely than it used to.

Well, we are living in the last days, aren't we? The Proclamation on the Family is being attacked indirectly and directly. It should come as no surprise that in the last days it will go that way. However, that doesn't mean that people who believe that a marriage is between a man and woman should give up the struggle. It will be an uphill battle but the battle will be worth it in the end.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.

LOL. How long have you idiots been prattling on about these being "the last days"?

I suppose the End Times(tm) were near when the Supreme Court mandated recognition of interracial marriages, too. Or do you not care about what the Prophets of the Lord have commanded?

What's wrong with people who believe that marriage is for a man and a woman simply marrying a person of the opposite sex, and showing the world through the wonderful example of their blissfull and socially-productive family life just how desirable it all is? And then let everyone else make up their minds and pursue life, liberty, and happiness on their own terms?

Why should Mormons get to grow up, go to BYU, find the person they were in love with in the pre-existence (think: Saturday's Warrior), get married, have tons of awesome sex living in the Rabbit Hutches, graduate with two or three kids already, and go on to live the dream, and then turn around and deny the rights of others to pursue life, liberty, and happiness, on their own terms?

So Mormons get to pursue life, liberty, and happiness on their own terms, but others don't get to do this? And Mormons get to do this because they are "right", and others don't get to do this because they're "wrong"? Is that what it comes down to?
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Just goes to show you that Mormons don't take all that stuff about "agency" very seriously.

Prohibiting gay people from marrying is following Satan's plan of salvation.

No, we are not. The last days will probably be billions of years from now when Sol goes supernova.

Yes, like any other political manifesto. Which is what it is. Nothing more.

Um...to quote sportscliche.com:

That was the back breaker.

There's the dagger.

That sealed their fate.

That's a nail in the coffin.

A lot of the faithful are heading for the exits.

Warm up the bus.

The wheels just fell off.

The roof just caved in.

Lights out.

Rollo Tomasi wrote:... states that have legalized gay marriage, according to CNN. Three other states -- Massachusetts, Connecticut and Iowa -- already allow same-sex marriages, and Vermont has passed a law legalizing gay marriage that takes effect in September.

Has the LDS Church fought this development in any of these states -- or is the "revelation" received by Brethren to get involved in politics and fight gay marriage (i.e., Prop. 8 in CA) only apply to certain states?

Hi Walmart,

Well, we are living in the last days, aren't we? The Proclamation on the Family is being attacked indirectly and directly. It should come as no surprise that in the last days it will go that way. However, that doesn't mean that people who believe that a marriage is between a man and woman should give up the struggle. It will be an uphill battle but the battle will be worth it in the end.

Yeah, the last days couldn't have been when slavery existed throughout the world, when Hitler, Stalin, or Pol Pot slaughtered millions of people, or when wars covered the globe. Nope, the "real" last days are when people who love each other want to get married.
