Re: Follow the prophet?
Several years ago, my TBM sister and brother in law, living in Utah were "called" by a counselor in the Stk Presidency of her ward to be part of a select group of people chosen to live the "higher law".
I won't go into all the details, but it was a total WTF moment for them. They declined the invitation nevertheless, it was bizarre to say the least.
Who knows, there could certainly be members living the principle and lying about it, just as occurred during the early days of the church.
In fact, we would have no idea if leaders of the LDS church secretly had multiple wives.
If Joseph Smith lied about it, why can't TM? I'm not saying he is, just that we really have no way of knowing.

I'm skeptical. Is there any corroboration for this story, or will it remain double hearsay?

Not that far of a stretch. Richard R. Lyman did it for nearly 20 years up until 1943 while maintaining his membership in the Quorum of the 12.

I looked up that name. Fascinating.
I've learned much, much more about the Church -- and more interesting information -- than I ever did while I was a member. Thanks.

You're talking about Richard Lyman? Check out his grandfather also, Amasa Lyman. Even more interesting. A Lyman descendant served in my ward as a missionary when I was a member.

Re: Follow the prophet?
If its not sanctioned by the prophet, it is not bound and will work against them instead of for them. They are commiting adultery.
So adultery is ok if sanctioned by the prophet. I guess it is that thing about the Lord saying it wrong to do something at one point but ok if God says it at another. Talk about a moving target. Better be 100% certain the person saying God is moving the target is really speaking for God.

Re: Follow the prophet?
That husband is awesome. He found a big giant loophole in the "we no longer practice polygamy" doctrine. Just follow the original polygamy model of practicing in secret, and publicly denying it. And it doesn't matter if the wife is OK with it or not. When was it ever up to the wife? And even if she opposed it, he could just do it behind her back.

Hmm, Do I sense CAEMS and accompanying washing and anointing or just a gullible Mormon hausfrau who is being manipulated?
Either options are not mutually exclusive.
