I'm sorry to hear about this, too, liz. Your tribute, and even in what you've shared about your friend in these threads, was beautiful and I hope a consolation. A rather large number of my friends and acquaintances, and friends of friends, have died these last two years. It's been very hard. It's understandable why religion offers solace to so many and even a nonbeliever like myself can find comfort in some of the ways some religions frame "the meaningful." I've been rereading "Four Quartets" recently. Partly because Terence Davies makes such extensive use of the poems in his documentary "Time and the City," and partly because of other ways issues of memory and history have imposed themselves on my thinking lately.
