I'm with EAllusion on this one. I'll also note the "cheap shot" defensive maneuver: if you say something a little too on-target, they'll cry "cheap shot!" and shut you down.

IMHO, the MAD board is a good example of how Mormonism cannot handle the criticism levelled against it. If you say one thing that paints the church in a bad light they want to accuse you of being a troll or if you're a longtime poster they'll threaten to ban you. I think this is because they know Mormonism cannot hold up to the numerous problems with it, and when people are faced with these problems there's no way to counter them, so it falls like a house of cards.

It wouldn't surprise me if MAD and FAIR were some kind of shill sites created by the church to throw the questioning marks a bone every now and then and keep em paying tithing for a few extra years.

Hello,

It is very telling to me that apologists decline to hold substantive conversations here. They are not protected, and thus they cannot cut a critic off when their point is being lost.

MAD mods are notorious for declaring things off topic when they are not, finding offense when there is none, censoring posts that contain information or arguments problematic for what they say, etc. Even if you favored the uneven requirements in civility, that does not excuse this state of affairs.

I have never been a moderator, but it seems to me that there will always be complaints about specific calls. This problem is amplified when a particular thread becomes a focal point for multiple moderators trying to micro-manage the discussion. I am not excusing all bad calls, having ultimately been the victim of exactly this type of crosswise immoderation which resulted in my banning as The Dude. No, they are far from perfect in practice. All I am saying is that biased moderation is necessary to artificially level the playing field in this type of critic vs. Mormon discussion. The tender faith of the average neo-apologist cannot stand a broadside blast criticism.

My emphasis.

And if that isn't a succinct analysis of a pathetic situation, I don't know what is. Damned by faint praise indeed. Joseph would, by and large, likely be embarrassed by today's LDS apologists.

Doctor CamWHORE,

Maybe they don't desire to be insulted by the classy, highly intellectual trailer trash redneck morons who make up over 50% of this board.

Hello,

I am not sure that is the case, Sir. You provide an excellent example of typical LDS posting habits reference content. I think this is a result of not being able to insult a critic, and then have him respond likewise. Whereas on the "MAD" board, as it were, LDS posters insult with relatively impunity, and suffer little if any consequence. The same cannot be said of critics.

Very Respectfully,

Doctor Communist Whore,

I am not a typical LDS poster and I do not provide an example of typical LDS posting habits. If I were to put this post on the MADB board and mention that you're a malignant cancer, and that your ideas and standards are a stain on collective humanity and that the sooner you sod off and die the better for all concerned I would be banned.

Is MAD the Church? I think that all the moderators there who host the board are going to burn in hell, but what do I know? [Just kidding of course.]
