Really? Are they? Hmmm... I haven't seen that.

I never fail to be amazed at your ability to turn you imagination into your own personal reality.

Hmph. I thought you didn't care. It seems to me in your immutable christian way, you were feeling good imagining us heathens burning in hell.

I was talking about the subtext when people are sympathizing with the kid for not going and then talking about emotional abuse and the like. I'm hoping you don't think the kid didn't go because he felt he was emotionally abused.

Didn't care about what? There's nothing funny about being tormented by your own conscience. For those of you who choose to sear your conscience you will find that death starts a repair process.

allowing a child to read something where they get the image that they will burn or be punished forever for not being perfect is abuse.

I don't claim to know why he didn't want to go. All I can tell you are the reasons I never wanted to go at that age.

I'm not trying to make the claim that the kid has some profound insight, but kids aren't stupid. They can often sense when something isn't right, whether they can actually articulate it or not.

I imagine you're speaking from your own vast experience here, but, well, no sh*t, Sherlock.

Actually, if you're tormented by your conscience, death would actually end any repair process.

But if you think for a second that I think anything I've done relating to leaving the church or going against its teachings has my conscience tormenting me, you're more delusional than I originally thought. What I've done with respect to the church makes me feel good about myself, because I'm doing the right thing.

I don't go to church or pretend it's real/valuable strictly because I have integrity.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

OMG this is hilarious. I laugh outloud every time I see this kid outrun an overweight deputy sheriff.

I posted this on my Facebook and my wife commented on it, suggesting I was inventing the part about it being a "Mormon" Church. Other LDS friends on my list have blocked me, which I think is funny.

Just an hour ago the guy who baptized me posted a Real Clear Politics article suggesting Obama was Satan trying to deceive us with a golden tongue, and I criticized it for not providing any evidence. He and his wife get upset with me for not buying into these ultra conservative hit pieces against the President, or for daring to question them. He is a doctor who hates the idea of a universal health care system. So in my response I linked to an survey that showed how most doctors in the USA would prefer to operate in that kind of system.

I get a kick out of the way old Mormon friends shun me for not towing the party line, or for posting stuff that isn't exactly faith promoting.

Little update. The kid appeared on a television show this morning, and he apparently had three different explanations for taking the car: (1) "I don't know," (2) "I didn't want to go to church," and later he fessed up to his parents, (3) "I just wanted to know what it was like to drive a car."

Heresy seven: There are those who believe we must be perfect to gain salvation.

This is not really a great heresy, only a doctrinal misunderstanding that I mention here in order to help round out our discussion and to turn our attention from negative to positive things. If we keep two principles in mind we will thereby know that good and faithful members of the Church will be saved even though they are far from perfect in this life.

These two principles are

(1) that this life is the appointed time for men to prepare to meet God-this life is the day of our probation; and

(2) that the same spirit which possesses our bodies at the time we go out of this mortal life shall have power to possess our bodies in that eternal world.

What we are doing as members of the Church is charting a course leading to eternal life. There was only one perfect being, the Lord Jesus. If men had to be perfect and live all of the law -strictly, wholly, and completely, there would be only one saved person in eternity. The prophet taught that there are many things to be done, even beyond the grave, in working out our salvation.

And so what we do in this life is chart a course leading to eternal life. That course begins here and now and continues in the realms ahead. We must determine in our hearts and in our souls, with all the power and ability we have, that from this time forward we will press on in righteousness; by so doing we can go where God and Christ are. If we make that firm determination, and are in the course of our duty when this life is over, we will continue in that course in eternity. That same spirit that possesses our bodies at the time we depart from this mortal life will have power to possess our bodies in the eternal world. If we go out of this life loving the Lord, desiring righteousness, and seeking to acquire the attributes of godliness, we will have that same spirit in the eternal world, and we will then continue to advance and progress until an ultimate, destined day when we will possess, receive, and inherit all things.

I love it when the car finally stops.. and this tiny little person, whos not even as tall as the window, leaps out and scats to the house as fast as his little legs can carry him, ....hilarious !

I agree. If a child were reading such a thing I would encourage them to stop. Luckily this kid was not being taken to read such a thing.
