Re: Artificial Insemination
Yes, behind my back is more accurate. I did not know and wasn't part of the decision. Yes, I can afford to have another child as a single parent. I don't feel I have very many child bearing years left but also don't really want to be kicked out of the church. I feel like I have been screwed royally here! Damned if I do and damned if I don't.
The Bishop is involved because the handbook states we were supposed to counsel with the Bishop prior to the vasectomy. The Bishop is also involved because my husband held a key position and I did not believe keeping quiet was the right thing to do in light of that position.
I guess I'll have to pray about this. Of course I'm going to get me and my daugthter through the divorce before I do anything.

Not strictly true, if the poster gets a divorce she will be a single sister - see below
From the Church Handbook Number 2:
Artificial Insemination
The Church strongly discourages artificial insemination using semen from anyone but the husband. However, this is a personal matter that ultimately must be left to the judgment of the husband and wife. Responsibility for the decision rests solely upon them.
Artificial insemination of single sisters is not approved. Single sisters who deliberately refuse to follow the counsel of Church leaders in this matter are subject to Church discipline.
If you are going to be disciplined for it, you may as well do it the fun way.

Re: Artificial Insemination
why is the bishop involved in a vasectomy decision? Tell him to shove it.
Do you really need to have your own kid or can you choose adoption or fostering a needy child, there are many here in the dc metro and Will could use some parenting?
obviously there were some serious communication issues between the ex and you and it has definitely crushed your plans, sorry to here that but on the bright side you have a lot more freedom and will likely be able to retire early and drink virgin midori mai thais well lounging around the great salt lake and living the dream.

I don't know what the Church will do per se, but according to the apologists, Mary was impregnated by Heavenly Father via artificial insemination.

Seems the only logical conclusion.

Whatever Themis, I can fully accept that Jesus was born of a virgin -- and if that was with A.I. then so what?
Kinda weird though, in the old days, before bio-tech, it would have been so much easier to have disbelief of a virgin giving birth to a child. However, nowadays it happens all the time -- that is, if a gal is a "gold-star" lesbian and goes in for A.I., or if she is LDS, in her 30s, and has never had sex with a man, but goes in for A.I. so as not to miss the opportunity to have a child.

My point was that the most logical conclusion was that if Jesus was a real person his mother would have gotten pregnant with him by having sex with another person whether Joseph or someone else. The whole virgin birth is even older then the Jesus story.

Hi hannah,
Of all the places to choose from, I would have never even thought of that location.
I am sure that situation was very, very awkward for both your husband and the urologist.
Peace,
