Oh no. So sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with the family.

I sincerely reach out with hugs and prayers across the sea
to Dan, his Son and all of his family.

I pray and hope that all is well for Dan's family as soon as possible.
We shall not cease from exploration
and the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
and know the place for the first time.

Let's see:

I believe that I cannot do anything for Daniel Peterson or his son that will help them in any way, or that they need at this time.

But I do have (in real life) this sense of gratitude to all the people I meet in daily life who confer my personhood upon me by recognizing my human existence (and I can't see how to remain human without the reciprocity of which gratitude is a part). I think that my interactions with Daniel Peterson here and elsewhere have in small ways helped me maintain my sense of human existence, even if only through disagreement and occasionally derision.

So if any of you think there is anything you can do for this man and his son as they face up to the enemies in the form of disease and death who seek to destroy every one of us, please go ahead and do it, and good luck to you.

Gee, Chap. Your humanity is so overwhelming.

I'll be thinking of Dan and his family and sending as many warm and comforting vibes his way as I can.

It is not necessary to pretend to believe in the efficacity of either prayers or vibes in order to be humane, is it?

If you cannot see from my post that I feel sympathy for the sadness that has struck the Peterson family, then I think you may need to ask yourself how people with a totally naturalistic view of the world can express sympathy in such a case without pretending to believe in things that they do not believe in.

What the Peterson family needs now is excellent medical care, and the direct personal support of their in real life family and friends. I hope they get those.

You assumed sarcasm. Never assume with me or the written word.

We all do our best to express ourselves as suits our own worldview. I will send good vibes and warm thoughts to a man and his family whom I have never met. You choose differently. So be it.

I am sorry about the misunderstanding. On my part it was based on the common experience that strongly complimentary expressions on a board like this are frequently meant ironically! I am glad to see that when bad things happen to people in real life we mostly feel the same about it, and recognize that in others, though of course we express those feelings in our different ways.
