I appreciate the perspectives posted, by never Mo's (Jersey Girl, CK, and Hoops), ex-Mo's (selek) and somewhat Mo's (just me).

The present is my only opportunity to change the future, and the past is set in stone (except for my perspectives on it).

I do try to help others encountering similar circumstances--at whatever age they may be--and let them know that they do not need to buckle to the family, peer and local social pressure of Mormonism as I did for way too long, and that they can get out of it at anytime, no matter how deeply their lives are then entrenched in Mormonism. I also push back at those trying to displace the autonomous decision making by individuals.

I think that's so totally cool, sock. We all have had our unique set of experiences in life and sharing them with others just might set them on a more satisfying course or help them to see warning signs that they're compromising so much of themselves, they are losing themselves in the process.

I love the word "autonomy" or the ability to move about on one's own.

Certain circumstances in my life have made me determine to try not to live with regret for things I "might have" said or done in life. Better to say them and do them, I think, especially when it involves advocating for yourself or others.

I try hard not to hurt anyone else, but you know, I also think there are a few folks running around out there who could use a good smack upside the head/reality check from time to time.

And that includes me.

I grew up, steeped in the Superstitions of my Fathers (Mormonism). I did not enjoy as a teenager many of those things that my contemporaries not constrained by fear of god, specifically fear of the Mormon god, explored and enjoyed. Subsequently, my social and emotional maturation was stunted (or at least postponed).

I spent two years of my sexual prime being stuck with another male, not even of my own choosing

Yes. Desire to sin is the prime motivation for leaving the Church. Illicit sex and alcohol/drugs being high (pun intended) on the list.

Really?

CFR

Tell us why is the highest per capita porn use is in Utah and why is there increasing focus by LDS leadership on this growing addiction among LDS men??

Seems like the saints are sinning in ever expanding numbers and not leaving the church.

No. I left because of the white-wash, lies about Mormon history--by the Mormon Church. Subsequently, I developed regret about ever having been Mormon run in the vein of what you call 'sins' and the non-religious world calls life experiences.

Only the Sith deal in absolutes Sock Puppet. If I had thrown out God and every good belief along with the bad that came with Mormonism, I'd feel the same way you do. But I don't believe my sacrifices were a waste, even if I might not do the same again.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

I'm with Sock on this. I would have made different and better choices without Mormonism. So very different. So much better.
