That's not just sickening, it's delusional. How many black members are listening to this drivel and wondering why their children aren't being born with lighter skin? How many cauc. members are looking at that family and judging them?

I'm sorry, if I heard such a thing in church, my hand would go up and I would respond in protest asking the same questions I just posed.

Did anyone take notice here that this is a...uh...story, from Justme, someone who is clearly short a few spark plugs? Few, if any in the Church actually believe this. Most understand such changes to be due to the continuous and increasing intermarriage between ethnic groups that is sure to increase dramatically in the future.

What's really sickening, ad infinitum, is the nauseating leftist psuodo-moral grandstanding people like Justme, who appear to have no actual moral values at all worth holding, in a personal sense, trot out in public when they want to bask in their own politically correct self righteousness.

Sick indeed, as well as delusional.

Why is this story being used in church?
What is the intended message or teaching of this story?

HAHAHAHAHA!

You can't make this crap up. Srsly. This isn't the first time I've heard stories similar to this...SWK anyone?

But, yeah, she went on about "Spanish speaking countries" being Lamanites and blossoming like the rose because they are accepting the gospel. Basically, Mexicans and Argentinians and such are all Lamanites.

And then the lovely story about the family with 9 children where each kid was lighter than the last after joining the church. Oh, and they lovingly called the youngest (whitest) child their "little Nephite."

It's hard for me to imagine that some members are spending this Sunday having felt somehow spiritually fulfilled by these stories.

I mean really, really hard, BFF.

Well, I am sorry to inform you that many women were very touched by the discussion about "Lamanites." One sister has a son on a mission to the "Lamanites" in Argentina and started crying. Their were tears in several eyes over the story.

Yeah.

Oh, and the Mexicans. They talked about the Mexicans and how they are so sweet and join the church and come in jeans and then you see them "blossom" and turn into....well, suited white collared Mormons.

So, yeah, robbing people of their culture and heritage is very, very spiritual and touching.

This excuse can only go so far. At some point, one interacts with the broader world around them and discovers that this type of teaching is racist simply by contrasting current belief with the belief of those around them. Culpability takes over from that point.

H.

I don't think it's an excuse, rather I think something else is going on. Let me try this out on you and others.

I think that some LDS (like many other believers) are compartmentalized in their thinking to the extreme. In this case, I am trying to take on the perspective of one of the members who listened to this story.

I'm thinking that what I am hearing is confirmation of my religious teachings and also reinforcement for the good that LDS do in the mission field in enlisting converts to Mormonism.

I'm also hearing about it happening in some far away place. A place where I can only imagine what the living conditions are, etc. and how grateful these folks must be to LDS for giving the restored gospel.

Now, imagine yourself an LDS Jersey Girl sitting in an LDS Ward some place in Jersey when a member gets up to tell the story of a black family in downtown Newark who have 9 children and are spiritually uplifted to note that their children are getting lighter and lighter skinned.

Am I gonna buy that?

No way in hell. Wanna know why? Because I can get in the car and drive to downtown Newark and witness this faith confirming miracle for myself. Am I gonna find a black family of 9 children with increasingly lighter complexions?

No way in hell.

Do you get what I am saying? These folks are hearing about a family in a far away place and not connecting it to the family in downtown Newark.

Or SLC.
Or Denver.
Or Phoenix.

Get it?

No. I can't let this stand, Loran. What about blacks being less valiant in the preexistence? What about the curse of Cain?

Come ON.

Has anyone broken it to this sister that her son's mission call has been amended by the church, and he's now merely on a mission among the Lamanites, not to them?
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen
