I've never been asked; I also joined the church when I was 21.

My kids have never been asked, but that doesn't mean I believe it didn't happen. My two sons have been asked if they follow the law of chastity, and if they knew what it meant. Both answered yes, and that was the end of the story.

I think this is a matter of personality. I've had socially-appropriate bishops. However, I've also spoken with a lot of bishops who brag about the detail that they get into with kids.

I think it is where you live too. Almost all the bishops here ask that question and I think they have been instructed here to do it. My Dad was a bishop and I know he asked the question as well. He thought he was being socially-appropriate because that's what all the other bishops were doing. I know it didn't like hearing about it and he didn't like to ask it.

My bishop admitted to me that he does ask when I asked him to never ask my children that question.

Was this the same bishop your son intimated had asked? Was he asked before or after you requested the bishop not to ask that?

PS: I was asked. I never felt like my bishops and counselors who asked were pervs, it was more matter-of-fact, and it seemed like they simply believed it was spiritually relevant. Still, pretty dumb question, and a dumb teaching.

I actually prepped my son when he turned 12 for those specific questions. I told him all he needed to say was "I keep the law of chastity." When he came home I asked if he was asked those uestions and he said yes, but wouldn't give me details.

My son has had several interviews now (they do them every 6 months) and I only recently was brave enough to ask my bishop not to ask that question. He said he would "try to remember not to."
