Hmmm. That's a tough one, Rambo. I vote that you just go with the flow. On the one hand, it's your house, so your rules should apply, and your friends ought to respect your boundaries. Most TBMs in public (at least in my experience) don't say prayers over restaurant meals, so you'd think that a similar protocol would apply in this instance. That said, they are doing all the work of prepping the food for you, so maybe allowing them this small bit of ritual could be a means of saying "thanks." So, my vote is that you just let things happen. If they pray, I wouldn't sweat it, though if it really bothers you, I guess that's a different story.

So your friends are insisting? I just think people don't think its putting anyone out if they pray. I suppose you can tell them, "you can't come overto my house and say a prayer. I suppose you can quietly secretly say one to yourselves but you can't say one out loud with each other." But that seems rude to me.
Well it's my house. Why is it rude for me to say you can't do certain things in my house? I'm totally fine with them having a prayer in their heart. I woudn't know if they had one anyways.

Good call Scratch. I had some TBM friends over the other day and I cooked for them and we didn't have a prayer. Granted it wasn't a special occasion like Christmas.
So I'll let this slide since they will be making the meal.

you can do what you want, Rambo. I tried to be reasonable. if you choose to tell them, they can't say a simple prayer with each other, then you'll only be pushing them away. If that's what you hope to do, then cool. Push them away.

I got it figured out. What scratch said was the best solution.
I think you have it the other way around. Mormons push people away by trying to force their religion on others. I would never go into an atheist house and ask if I can pray over my food. I would have the prayer at home before I went to his or her house.

Hey Rambo,
The spot you're in only becomes tough if you choose to make it tough.
(Prayer/no prayer, when you consider a "Thanks"-giving gathering, no biggie either way.)
Perhaps you could lead the prayer! Maybe something like- Dear random gases that came from nothing and that randomly mixed with other nothings, from Nothing, thank you for our health, the food, and the precious friends we have.
:)
Peace and HAPPY Thanksgiving to you and yours!
Peace,
Ceeboo

Let's see, Scratch said just go ahead and let them pray, essentially. Stem said, just go ahead and let them pray. Ah well...Rambo you silly guy.

That's silly, Rambo. You know this group of people as those who are Mormons. They aren't pushing things on you so much as doing what they've always done, that is if they even elect to pray. You should expect them to want to pray because its important to them. To treat it as if you're new position is far more important than letting them pray is rude.
They aren't just some random folks going out of their way, I don't think, to find a way to say a prayer in your house. My goodness.

haha it's for Christmas and that prayer would offend a Mormon. It would probably do more damage than not having a prayer.

Ceeboo, Rambo is Canadian. I thought Thanksgiving in Canada was a different day than it is in the US, even different month. I tend to forget Canadian sensitivities at times too.
