Every single report to the mods gets answered in a surprisingly prompt manner. If you have some specific problems you can report Jersey, it will get addressed.

Please point out how having more moderators would've prevented stemelbow from leaving and Ceeboo from taking a break until after New Year's Day--preferably in their own words.

Hi Shades,

By moving personal attacks and other posts that meet the criteria off the main (Terrestrial) forum as per forum rules. I will try in a moment, to offer up some examples in a separate post.

I have complained about both personal attacks and deliberate derails in the recent past, and had prompt reactions from mods. I don't of course expect them always to agree with me.

If Jersey Girl saw the posts she is about to exhibit, and did not press the alert button to tell the mods, what is she complaining about?

I have to agree. Take a look at her reaction to Chap's question. Jersey Girl can be cool sometimes, but at other times, not so sure.

LDST,

When I blew off Chap's question, it was a simple matter of anticipating the (unproductive) back and forth that would take place and a desire to wait for Shades (who is the only person in a position to rule on the matter) to reply.

The OP here had to do with the departure of two posters (permanent on the part of stem/temporary on the part of Ceeboo), not wanting to see people feel driven off the board, knowing that this is a busy time of year for everyone (including moderators, as I stated in the OP) and putting my money where my virtual mouth was since I'm not working right now and know the system. I find it odd that you choose to call into question a sincere offer to help.

It doesn't matter to me who moderates this board.

What matters to me is that the moderation be carried out and changes that have been discussed here repeatedly, acted upon.

Is this your idea of cool?

When you open with a salvo of mean-spirited attacks, such as titling your post, "The lack of logic that encompasses this joint" and then state, "This is quite like unto the whining exhibited here...", and you do so without provocation, that usually deserves a punch in the face.

But since you aren't here to get punched in the face, do us a favour, will ya? This Friday, around 11PM, walk into your local watering hole, when the local sports team is playing on television, and tell the locals that they "lack logic" when cheering for the home town favourite, and follow that up with a, "You guys are a bunch of whiners, because the Leafs are down". And then do that a few times over. That should get you the punch in the face you deserve.

See, we can't punch you in the face, so in lieu, we tell you to go f*** yourself, and call you an asshat, and f-tard. But you eat this up and in your arrogance, make declarations of your superiority with your down-home vocal affectations and hillbilly writing style. Well, keep at it, dummy, cuz every word uttered reminds us all (marg and marg's cronies excluded, wouldn't want to speak for *everyone*, right marg?) what a horrible, s****y example of a human being you are.

Well, f*** you, stemelbow. I hope you have a s****y Christmas, and f*****g miserable New Years, and rotten life. May a sqaudron of herpes-riddled vaginas find their way to your groin.

Pep f*****g pep.

Because it's not my idea of cool and I'm more than certain that stem was taken aback by the above as would many.

Those are the types of posts that I am referring to. They simply don't belong in the Terrestrial Forum.

Chap,

I've gone through spurts of reporting posts that I've noticed, that I think are not consistent with specific forum rules. Some have been acted on, others not.

I'll try to give more examples as I remember them.

You know how women can be -- they tend to complain too much.

I dunno, Jersey Girl, that's a bit of a cop out if you ask me. Chap asked you a perfectly valid, in-context question.

That is absolutely my idea of cool. And frankly, Jersey Girl, who gives a crap if you don't find it cool. That's not what moderation is about. If that post belonged in the lower kingdoms, then I'm fine with it going there because of the strong language.

However, if you just want to call it out for not matching your sense of what "cool" is, then do it via public debate. As someone mentioned earlier, this is how MD&D got where it is today, and nobody wants this board to go in the same direction.

This is why I would not trust you to moderate.

This thread which was posted by Ceeboo, not long before his (temp) departure:

http://mormondiscussions.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=531217#p531217

Should have never been jettisoned into the Off Topic forum. This is what I would characterize as a "seasonal community building" thread that we often see during the holiday season.

Please note the comment that Blixa made about "sane moderation".

When you swipe community building threads off the main forum and fail to attend to personal attacks such as the LDST example I posted above, it sends the message that personal attacks are valued and community building threads are not. The hostility that heats up the board, and sometimes boils over, is offset by community building threads.

Some of our moderators understand the value of maintaining balance on a board, while others seem oblivious to the need for it.

I'm going to insert a link to another type of thread for contrast.

Here's the other side of the coin:

http://mormondiscussions.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=530759#p530759

It's an OP initiated by Darth. I like the heck out of DJ, but this entire OP is a personal attack that was left to stand without question and I'm not sure why.

Any ideas about that?

I love this!! If I was the moderator I'd let it slide for sure.
