Huntsman is right on this. Obama is the President of the United States. If you consider yourself an American, and the President calls you up and asks you to serve your country, "sorry but you're a Democrat, so NO" should not be considered a valid reason for refusing. Republicans who pull this crap out are saying that on the balance beam of motivating principles in their minds, with Republican on one side of the scale, and American on the other side, the Republican side wins out. That's sad.

I have another question. If Robert Gates were to try to run as a Republican, should he be disqualified because he continued on as Secretary of Defense under Obama for two years?

In most organizations, working for Obama would be seen as an enhancement to credibility.
1. He has seen and experienced close up, how the government works. Positive.
He is in a better position of understanding the pitfalls etc.

2. He has seen and experienced close up, how Obama works. Positive.
He is in a better position of understanding what Obama does well and where his weaknesses lie.

I say this partly in jest, but could it be that he (Huntsman) has worked for a Lamanite?
Does Romney have black people in his direct employ on the campaign trail? I've google searched but cannot find a black face amongst the people he is pictured working with as part of his team.
Please can someone lay this ghost to rest and link up some evidence he has a racially diverse group of workers?

Amen, Sethbag. The fact that this kind of thinking gets any traction in the Republican party these days is deeply depressing.

Too bad for Huntsman that he was unwilling to pretend to be a nut-bag idiot in order to win the nomination. Romney clearly outshone Huntsman in his willingness and ability to pander to the worst elements of his party.

Additionally, it is rumored that Huntsman would not wrap himself in the Confederate flag and and meet with the Grand Dragon, nor sip the nectar of magnolias. You've got to really want the vote if you are to be the candidate.

To be the nominee, you have to pander to the party's voters. Huntsman did not do that--well, at least not nearly as well as he's been pandering to Romney in the past 48 hours.

Perhaps he wasn't cut out as a liar...

The Romney team also purchased a stake in Damon Corporation in 1990, which was a medical testing company. Romney served on the board. The company was purchased by Corning Inc.
Bain made 3 times the money invested. Upon selling his stock, Romney declared $100,000 in capital gains. Following, in 1996, Damon was found guilty for overbilling Medicare and had to pay $119 million for civil and criminal violations.
Bob Drogan (LA Times) reported, “In 1996, however Damon pled guilty to overbilling Medicare and paid $119 million in criminal and civil fines. When asked about this during his gubernatorial race in Massachusetts, Romney claimed he was a whistleblower in the scandal. US Attorney Donald K. Stern, however, had no recollection of such actions by Romney.”
In fact, Robert Gavin of the Boston Globe reported “court records suggest that the Damon executives’ schemes continued throughout Bain’s ownership and prosecutors credited Corning, not Romney with cleaning up the situation. Bain meanwhile tripled its investment. Romney personally reaped $473,000, Romney aides would later claim that reporters “misunderstood” his whistleblowing claims – something his aides would continue to do on a number of Romney’s misrepresentations of the truth.”

Pathetic.

Not really. Huntsman expressed the real and most important goal, getting rid of Obama; and he believes that Romney has the best shot at that.

Why is that so important? Romney isn't much to the right of Obama.

I actually agree with you on that one. Not much will change when the other party takes over. Nothing ever does. That's how the two party system works or for voters from factions like mine, how the system fails to work.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.
