Bad news for society. Bad what else would one expect from the corrupt 9th?
What do think the result of this will be, say, 10 years from now?
Children growing up in homes thinking homosexuality is okay and lacking proper male and female role models. As we have also shown, homosexuality presents significant additional risk factors making it a serious public health issue.
But we still have the full 9th, this was just a three judge panel, and then the Supreme Court. The 9th is fully corrupt so I expect it to go all the way to the Supreme Court from my perspective. If the 9th surprises and upholds, I expect the other side will do the same.
In some ways I'm a little disappointed at the timing. This will now officially become a bone of contention in the 2012 presidential race. I was hoping it wouldn't.
A silver lining yes. The number one issue for conservatives should be nominations for judgeships and not just the Supreme Court.
I haven't been to this forum in a very long time. I couldn't resist popping back in to see what, if any, reaction there would be.
Mormon Leadership and a significant number of their followers bought and paid for this proposition. They OWN it, and look how it's playing out. What a shame for the many basically good members who put their trust in bad leadership.
From Pg. 79-80 of the ruling:
"By using their initiative power to target a minority group and withdraw a right that it possessed, without a legitimate reason for doing so, the People of California violated the Equal Protection Clause. We hold Proposition 8 to be unconstitutional on this ground."
. . . just goes to show to get GOOD people to do BAD things, you really do need religion.

Maybe, but it probably wont' play a significant role. Gay marriage now enjoys a majority of support that is literally growing by the day. There is increasingly tepid opposition from conservatives. They can no longer use it as a national wedge issue, as that is liable to blow up in their face. But it's not so popular that the Democrats are broadly in favor of using it as a wedge issue on their side either. So we are in a holding pattern for now. The demographics are brutal for gay rights opponents. Give it a few years and gay marriage will be used as a wedge issue to paint an increasingly small minority of social conservatives as out of touch bigots. Which is nice.

Edited to give your bigotry context.

Yup.
And it will just be sweet, sweet irony if Prop 8, driven by Mormon prophets and apostles, is the impetus for a Supreme Court ruling against gay marriage bans. :)

I agree and I believe we both are pulling for Romney, but the issue of the legality of gay marriage, if it is raised during the general elections, will cost Romney votes no mater how he approaches it.
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."
Whatever appears to be against the Book of Mormon is going to be overturned at some time in the future. So we can be pretty open minded.-charity 3/7/07
MASH quotes I peeked in the back [of the Bible] Frank, the Devil did it. I avoid church religiously. This isn't one of my sermons, I expect you to listen.
So, assuming Supreme Court upholds the finding, what will be the faith promoting spin here? The brethren specifically directed membership to devote time and money to making sure Prop 8 passed. And if Prop 8 is the catalyst that actually makes gay marriage legal nationwide...
