While I am personally very unhappy about the mall and its costs the Church does not spend 0 per year on helping the poor. Everyone always leaves out fast offering which I have estimated here numerous times to be about $500 million per year.
That's the point. The Church merely passes on the extra donations that members make over and above tithing. Perhaps if the Church specified City Creek as a separate fund on the donation slip the members would still have stumped up money to support it...
Also, how do you calculate $500 million in fast offering? The best estimate for tithing income worldwide is $2 billion per year (based on UK published financial accounts £27 million tithing per 186,000 claimed membership). I don't believe members stump up 2.5% of their gross on fast offering as an average.

It's not gonna matter any more, Jason. Just because you designate "Fast Offering" or "Humanitarian Aid" on your tithing slip, the church can and will put your donation wherever they damn well please... and that includes GA salaries, business building projects, etc., none of which will ever be reported in a transparent annual report.

Changes: No more "address" section--replaced with "Membership Record Number" section. Five categories: Tithing (of course), Fast offering, General missionary, Ward missionary (?), Humanitarian aid, and Other (specify).
Bottom of slip: "Though reasonable efforts will be made globally to use donations as designated, all donations become the Church's property and will be used at the Church's sole discretion to further the Church's overall mission."
I think they're getting in the legalese now to ensure that nobody can sue them for anything in the future. Jesus' legal team is on it. Jesus can do anything he wants with your cash so pay up and shut up.

Total income = $11 billion
Annual charity contributions = $500 million
% of total = 4.5%
4.5% is pretty good... or so-so... can't-compainish

That's £145 per claimed member. Claimed membership worldwide is 15,000,000.
15 million members x £145 average = just over £2 billion tithing income worldwide per annum.

They are paying tons of taxes over there. People don't have as much ability to pay LDS taxes because all their British taxes are going to things like welfare and veterans assistance and whatnot. Don't forget to vote Republican!
