Yeah. Citizen of the Galaxy (I think) had a spaceship named the Joseph Smith and Starship Troopers had a Firebase Joe Smith or a Base Camp Joe Smith, if I'm remembering correctly. I recently tried to wade back into Heinlein but everything that once delighted me about his writing only serves to irritate me now.

I'd probably have to read the book again to figure out what it was that made me think that. I've not read it since I was 12 or 13, so I read the earlier version and not the later "restored" one.

I always assumed the same. I was surprised (when I googled Stranger, just now) to find that Joseph Smith isn't mentioned in critiques on the book.

Exactly. That's why I always questioned my memory.

There is one of his books that is about a group of teens left on a planet for a survival training who get marooned . the Book of Mormon is in that one. I forget the name.

I tend to like his earlier stuff that is more pure sci-fi than his later stuff that becomes increasingly more social commentary.
It is better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener at war.

Some of us, on the other hand, actually prefer a religion that includes some type of correlation with reality.

The movie version of Starship Troopers has that, but the book does not.

Ha! Thanks, Darth. Obviously, this bucket I use for a brain is really a sieve.
